The nonpartisan Legislative Affairs Agency provides objective accurate and timely services and products to the Alaska Legislature and Alaskans to support and inform policy making facilitate public access to the legislative process and preserve the legislative institution.
Working in seamless partnership across sections staff approach their tasks with professionalism grace and courtesy in supporting the challenging and vital work of the legislative branch.
Definition:
Works in the Juneau Legislative Information Office to support session activities of the Legislature. Provide information via phone email and online chat service connect constituents to their legislators moderate live committee hearings and assists the Information Officer with the daily office operation. This position will work 40 hours per week.
Examples of Duties:
Operates teleconference equipment and moderates committee hearings to help facilitate public testimony and participation in the legislative process.
Maintain communication with Media Services regarding the status of meetings and troubleshoots problems with the teleconference connections or equipment during the hearings.
Processes public information messages (POMs) by taking information by phone e-mail or fax and relaying the message to the appropriate legislative office.
Answers office telephones and responds to questions from constituents and legislative staff.
Acts as a call operator for committee hearings and gathers information from callers to assure they are placed in the correct meeting.
Answers online website chat service.
Conducts basic research on topics related to statutes legislation and legislative actions.
Identifies appropriate resources for public questions and provides contact information.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services.
Knowledge of Alaska legislature legislative procedure and legislative committees.
Knowledge of Alaska state government divisions and agencies.
Knowledge of basic computer programs.
Ability to write and speak clearly concisely and in a well-organized manner.
Ability to act professionally objectively and impartially in dealing with legislators and public.
Ability to communicate and perform effectively and diplomatically with personal contacts.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle politically sensitive work.

Work/Life Balance
Work/life balance is supported through:- Agency staff may accrue as compensatory time up to 150 hours of hours worked over the standard work week (40 hours). There is no cash value to compensatory time.
- The State offers paid leave starting at 6:28 (h:mm) a pay period or 21 days a year. If you have previous time working for the State of Alaska in a leave eligible position the time will be calculated into your accrual rate.
- 12 paid State holidays each year.

Minimum Qualifications
Alaska resident
High school diploma or equivalent.
One-year relevant work experience.Additional Required Information
