Job Description
Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in an Information Technology-related field.
Four years of experience with software programming and software modification or four years of experience working with or managing GIS systems.
Two years of related supervisory experience.
Other combinations of education or experience may be substituted.
Special Information. Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States. A valid drivers license is required with less than 12 conviction points in the most recent completed 36 months.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Forward-looking towards low code/no code solutions and knowledge of best practices.
- Knowledge of programming languages such as Java Python GO Rust Perl etc.
- Knowledge of various SQL environments: Oracle MSSQL Postgres MariaDB etc.
- Knowledge of various scripting languages: Powershell Bash etc.
- Comfortable operating in multiple operating system environments: Windows Linux AIX MacOS Oracle etc.
- Knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle.
Minimum Physical/Mental Requirements:
- May require 8 or more hours a day working with a computer.
- May require more than a 40-hour workweek.
- May require on-call work to perform systems upgrades/changes and respond to issues.
- May address issues during off-hours.

Job Overview:
The Montana Department of Justice is actively seeking a highly skilled and experienced Software Development Supervisor to lead a dynamic team of developers. This pivotal role is central to the departments mission of leveraging technology to enhance public safety and streamline operations across the state. This role encompasses guiding team members fostering professional growth and cultivating a collaborative and innovative work environment. The supervisor will monitor project progress and report status to upper management.
Key responsibilities include identifying and resolving technical issues bottlenecks and development blockers. The supervisor will ensure that development efforts and software solutions align with broader business goals and strategic initiatives and identify opportunities to improve efficiency implement best practices and introduce new methodologies or technologies. This position leads the development creation and modification of computer applications and specialized utility programs including Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The role will direct the building maintenance testing and modification of GIS and databases by integrating geospatial information with other specialized datasets and applications.
Candidates with demonstrated experience in Software Development Coding Computer Programming GIS and other directly applicable experience are encouraged to apply.
