About the Role

This role will involve working within the Stores building at Croft or Mountsorrel depot from 06:45am until 16:00 pm Monday to Thursday and 06:45am until 15:30pm Fridays.

You will work as part of our team to deliver a best value customer-focussed service throughout Leicestershire and occasionally surrounding counties. You will undertake operational and administrative duties to support the management of the Councils transport depots highways stores and highways waste management areas. You will also support the provision of highway maintenance construction forestry and street lighting activities.

Activities include:

  • Yard management;
  • Forklift Truck and Telehandler other large plant operation
  • Delivery and Collection of goods using heavy and light goods vehicles
  • Waste Transfer processes.

The nature of the work may include the job holder occasionally carrying out duties outside of normal hours. All weather conditions will need to be worked in to meet the needs of the service.

Stores may work out of standard hours but not as part of a call-out rota.

This role is a Safety Critical Post and consequently subject to random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with our policies and procedures. A copy of our Substance Misuse Policy and Procedure is available upon request.

About You

To apply for this post you must hold or be willing to work towards:

  • A valid Large Goods Vehicle Licence and CPC Trained with current DQC Cardis desirable
  • Tele-Handler and Lift Truck license or obtain within 6 months of employment
  • Experience of working in a highways civil engineering or stores/warehousing environment with Record-keeping/Stock-keeping and experience of handling and management of materials plant or other commodities
  • Experience of dealing with internal and external customers on the telephone and face to face gives customers the correct information and keeps them up to date with regular contact and can remain calm & positive in challenging circumstances.
  • Familiarity with recycling & waste operations
  • Knowledge of safe working practices when using plant and machinery of depot/ warehouse Health Safety and Environmental requirements and safe working procedures and knowledge of legislation including drivers hours PPE and manual handling
  • Core communication skills both written and verbal be able and willing to work with everyone in the team and you are able to use own initiative in planning and prioritising including being able to prioritise own workload.

You must also have an understanding of and commitment toequality diversity and inclusion.
