Job Summary
The CVOR Registered Nurse is responsible for providing direct and indirect patient care in the cardiovascular surgical setting. The RN assesses plans implements and evaluates patient care before during and after cardiovascular surgeries. They work closely with the surgical team including surgeons perfusionists anesthesiologists and surgical technologists to ensure safe and effective care during highly specialized procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in the preparation and delivery of patient care for cardiovascular surgeries such as CABG valve repair/replacement thoracic aortic procedures and other complex cardiac cases
Function as a scrub or circulating nurse in the CVOR
Monitor patients status intraoperatively including vital signs and response to medications and anesthesia
Ensure surgical instruments equipment and supplies are available and sterile
Maintain accurate and timely documentation in patient records
Anticipate surgeon needs and support the surgical team with quick decision-making
Adhere to infection control safety and aseptic techniques
Participate in pre-op and post-op hand-offs and ensure continuity of care
Maintain a clean and safe operating room environment
Participate in ongoing educational activities and professional development related to cardiac surgery
Education Requirements
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
Licenses and Certifications
Current and active Registered Nurse (RN) license in state of practice
Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification Required
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Required
CNOR or CCRN certification Preferred
CVOR Specialty Certification Preferred
Experience Requirements
Minimum of 12 years experience in the Operating Room
At least 1 year of experience in Cardiovascular OR preferred
Familiarity with high-acuity cardiovascular procedures and protocols
Skills & Competencies
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced surgical environment
High level of critical thinking and attention to detail
Strong organizational and time management skills
Team-oriented and collaborative attitude
Proficient in EMR and surgical documentation systems
