Job Summary:
The Adult Education ESL Instructor (Adjunct) is responsible for the coordination and facilitation of curriculum that meets basic academic needs and workplace skills. Instructors are also responsible for direct instruction of the basic academic skills to all students enrolled in the program. This program is taught at our Arkansas City Main Campus location in the evenings. This is a Grant Funded position. This position is paid via a per-semester contract: Fall Spring and the option for Summer.
Essential Functions:
- Responsible for the development and facilitation of the Burlington English curriculum.
- Adopt and follow the Adult Education Teacher Competencies.
- Provide program orientation for new students.
- Create a supportive learning environment in order to aid all learners in achieving success.
- Coordinate with Adult Education instructors and area agencies.
- Attend staff development meetings and conferences.
- Create and complete professional development plans according to Kansas Adult Education policy.
- Maintain courteous professional and effective working relationships with employees vendors and/or any other representatives of external organizations.
- Comply with all Cowley College policies and procedures.
- Assist the Adult Education Director by performing other duties as assigned.
- Help coordinate with the Hispanic population.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Ability to organize coordinate and work effectively within a team.
- Strong English language skills (spelling word usage and meaning etc.)
- Bilingual
- Firm understanding of basic technology (Windows and MS Office Products)
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work and maintain the highest level of confidentiality.
- Good communication skills both written and oral.
- Ability to organize and prioritize work to meet deadlines.
- Excellent human relation skills. Ability to work with individuals from a variety of backgrounds.
Recommended Education Background:
- Bachelors Degree in Education or related field.
Recommended Experience:
- Minimum of three years of experience in teaching or related field.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time; ability to move freely around the campus and outreach centers; ability to lift up to 20 pounds; ability to bend stoop reach and grasp as required to perform responsibilities; ability to drive motor vehicle; and ability to work on the computer for long periods of time.
Work Environment:
Work performed in an office environment and classroom
