The Tooling Project Engineer will be accountable for the new product introduction successful industrialization and ownership of all press tooling including end of arm robotic tooling to provide technical support and process engineering ensuring business objectives are met or exceeded in the areas of Safety People Quality Responsiveness Cost and Environment initiatives. This includes designing and improving tooling systems as well as ensuring the proper maintenance and repair of dies. The Tooling Engineer will also be responsible for implementing best stamping practices and providing technical support to other team members.
Position
Responsible for new product introduction of press tooling that is for BIW/class A automotive panels including full tooling oversight from product inception to end of program cycle. You will need to establish excellent relationships with all functions and external (3rd party) suppliers involved in the vehicle and production process development launch and manufacturing. Responsible for the full tooling development cycle including feasibility studies process layout design die design product maturation and quality roadmap improvement pre and final buy off.
Tooling responsibilities include all aspects of the press tooling maturation successful integration to plant achieving set KPIs such as defects PPM PIST level SPM OEE etc. Develop appropriate preventive maintenance practices to ensure tooling is maintained to prevent any unplanned downtime.
You will also support and partner with teams in the execution of strategic business plans which deliver year-on-year performance efficiencies through a continuous improvement culture and production system.
You will a member of a proactive engineering culture ensuring sound process control and engineering control programs are established implemented and continuously improved.
Position Responsibilities
Develop and lead a safety-first culture while ensuring safe work practices and compliance to all local regulatory guidelines are met.
Successfully develop press tooling for projects from feasibility stage through to end of product life cycle.
Drive and support all activities to ensure overall business objectives and targets are met or exceeded.
Create sound working relationships with operations maintenance and product engineering teams to work together as one to achieve great outcomes for the business.
Compliance to VinFast Manufacturing systems and processes.
Look for ways to eliminate waste and cost out of the business though team engagement and ownership.
Ensuring that process control standards are developed monitored and tracked to ensure robust systems are in place and strictly adhered to.
Ensuring that planned engineering activities are executed via change management and do not have an impact on production requirements.
Control suppliers on new projects for tooling ensuring they follow VF standard and be responsible for tooling maturation including pre and final buy-off.
Minimum 6 years experience in an automotive stamping facility in a tooling engineering related role
Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (PowerPoint Word Excel)
CAD experience with Catia and Siemens NX/alternative with ability to design and modify existing designs
AutoForm program experience including ability to draft initial feasibility studies up to and including full process design and formability studies.
Education: Bachelors Degree in relevant engineering field essential (Industrial Mechnical)
Strong communication skills to enable effective dialogue with local and international audiences across all levels of the organisation.
Sound Technical knowledge of a highly automated environment.
Ability to problem solve complex stamping issues under high pressure environments with capability to complete detailed root cause analysis.
5 years of tool and die repair experience in an OEM or tier one automative related role
Demonstrated ability to drive improvements and control suppliers both national and international
