Details of Research Project:
The Post Doc Fellow will work on pilot studies investigating how CGRP-expressing trigeminal sensory neurons communicate with immune cells in the meninges. They will use genetic models to stimulate or inhibit the CGRP-expressing trigeminal sensory neurons to perform gain and loss of function studies. They will also use reporter mice to trace nerve fibers of these neurons in young and aged mice to see if aging impacts the structure and function of these neurons and its impact on neuroimmune crosstalk in the meninges.
Technical Duties:
Educational and other Requirements for the position:
MD and/or PhD degree and applicable experience and education
Experience Required:
3 years of relevant experience in laboratory. Specific skillsets required: basic flow cytometry preparation of RNA quantitative real-time PCR RNA-seq in vivo mouse work basic staining and prep for imaging. Desired skillsets: single-cell bioinformatics experience epigenomics background calcium imaging.
Goals/Outcomes of the Research Project:
Knowledge of the underlying mechanisms of migraine and headache will lead to new rational-based treatment approaches by electively targeting specific pain signaling pathways in the trigeminal system.
