JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is seeking a highly skilled and accountableprofessional to join our team in the role of Project Leader.

Reporting to the Senior Manager Projects this position is responsible for the management and control of specialized complex projects which support business requirements ensuring employee accountability and ownership through effective project leadership from concept through design construction and commissioning.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Lead organize coordinate and take ownership of all stages of project management including concept design construction installation commissioning system integration and field work in accordance with approved governance standards and project management processes.
  • Utilize established project management processes for phase-gating integration scope schedule cost change control estimating communications reporting and risk management.
  • Manage engineering procurement and construction activities to ensure delivery of project objectives within targets for safety quality budget and schedule.
  • Provide leadership to assigned project staff fostering a work environment that motivates supports and encourages high performance continuous improvement and professional development.
  • Act as a coach and facilitator enabling a supportive team environment and empowering staff to achieve optimal work performance with high accountability.
  • Prepare and maintain project management plans including work breakdown structures (WBS) cost estimates schedules risk management plans and contract performance specifications.
  • Monitor and report on project progress at the project level ensuring all participants understand requirements roles and scope and promoting effective team-building.
  • Resolve project issues and manage changes to scope schedule and cost ensuring deliverables are achieved as planned.
  • Implement and administer project safety and quality assurance (QA) programs in compliance with station/business unit requirements.
  • Coordinate and lead meetings with consultants contractors suppliers and internal stakeholders to clarify requirements and ensure project success.
  • Maintain liaison with external groups regulatory bodies and agencies to exchange relevant data and meet project objectives.
  • Guide the application of quality principles to project work through enhanced service and a collaborative team approach.
  • Support the ongoing improvement of project management practices and contribute to a healthy and safe work environment.
  • Other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • 4-year university degree in Engineering Applied Sciences Business Administration Economics or a related field; P. Eng. designation is an asset; PMP certification is an asset.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of physics engineering principles mathematics chemistry economics and business principles as they relate to industrial and power generation equipment and project management.
  • Over 8 years of progressive project management experience including developing project requirements and plans preparing cost estimates participating in RFP and contract bidding and award processes managing projects through execution and close-out and handling conflicting priorities of scope schedule cost and quality.
  • Experience in design development operations systems equipment and processes in a generating station or comparable heavy industry.
  • Strong knowledge of cost accounting forecasting commercial contracting methods contract management construction methods codes and standards quality assurance and health and safety.
  • Proven effectiveness as a team leader and supervisor with strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage complex multi-contract multi-stakeholder projects with schedule constraints.
  • Experience in the nuclear industry and with nuclear project management processes is a significant asset.
  • Strong communication skills in English both oral and written with the ability to prepare concise reports and facilitate cross-functional meetings.

The base salary range considers many factors including but not limited to experience education and training including any collective agreement requirements for union represented positions. It is not typical for the salary to be offered near the top of the range and salary is dependent on numerous factors. For management roles the base salary range does not represent the total compensation package. The total compensation package for regular full-time management roles includes pay-for-performance programs for annual and medium time periods.
