Position Description

The School of Engineering at the University of Mississippi invites applications for a permanent non-tenure track faculty position at the INSTRUCTIONAL ASSISTANT PROFESSOR level to begin the 20th of August 2026.

  • Primary responsibilities are instructing undergraduate courses:
    • Core courses subject to candidate expertise:
      • Introduction to material science (ENGR313) statics (ENGR309) engineering analysis I (ENGR310) mechanics of materials (ENGR312) thermodynamics (ENGR321) fluid mechanics (ENGR323) engineering economy (ENGR345) and electric circuit theory (ENGR360).
    • First-Year experience freshman courses:
      • Engineering Fundamentals and lab (ENGR 101 and 111) first-year experience.

  • Other instructional opportunities include:
    • Fundamentals of systems engineering (ENGR431) leadership and professionalism in engineering (ENGR400) and the general engineering senior design I and II (ENGR 451 and 452).

  • Typical distribution of effort is 85% teaching and 15% service.
    • Service may include mentoring students and student organizations as well as participating in recruiting outreach and orientation events.

  • This is a non-research teaching-focused position with no pathway to a tenure-track appointment. It is designed for individuals who are passionate about undergraduate education and student success and who seek a long-term instructional role within the School of Engineering.

  • The opportunity for advancement to the rank of Instructional Associate Professor and Instructional Professor is available.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must have earned a Ph.D. in an engineering discipline or engineering education before beginning this position.

Preferred Qualifications

Competitive candidates will have

  • Demonstrable teaching ability strong interpersonal and communication skills and an energetic commitment to undergraduate education.
  • Experience with accrediting agencies and outcome driven assessments.

About the Program

The General Engineering program at The University of Mississippi serves a dual role within the School of Engineering. The programs dedicated faculty teach core engineering courses that support students across all engineering addition to this instructional role the program also offers an ABET-accredited degree (Bachelor of Science in Engineering). In this degree students work closely with faculty to design personalized degree plans with specialized emphases in areas such as pre-med aerospace manufacturing business and more allowing them to align their engineering education with diverse career goals.
