Position: ESG Policy Advisor

Employment Type: Permanent

Compensation Details:

  • Project Manager 17: Salaries typically range from $ 83037 to $ 110717 annually based on qualifications and experiences plus a performance-based incentive.

Location:

  • Export Development Canada operates in a hybrid work environment currently requiring employees to work in the office 2 days per week. (subject to change)
  • This role can be performed from EDCs headquarters in Ottawa or from one of our Community Hubs located in Toronto Mississauga Montreal Brossard Laval Calgary Edmonton Halifax or Vancouver.

Team Overview:

Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to work in the fast-evolving field of Environmental Social and Governance (ESG) Our ESG Policy & Research team is seeking to recruit a new Policy Advisor Governance to join our growing team. This individual will be responsible for portfolio-level Environmental & Social (E&S) risk management practices and processes provide oversight on the implementation of the E&S policies as well as support and/or lead on other E&S risk-related initiatives.

Reporting to the Director of ESG Policy & Research in the Corporate Sustainability Group the Policy Advisor Governance will work closely with the various ESG teams lines of business and the Global Risk Management (GRM) Group.

This role falls within our project management discipline. The candidate establishes implements and monitors the portfolio-level E&S risk management processes and deliverables ensures the resolution of audit recommendations and findings as well as provides overall oversight on E&S policy-level artifacts. Working with the Director the candidate will ensure that the ESG Policy & Research team has sufficient governance measures in place over its polices positions and standards and that these are being implemented maintained and monitored accordingly. The Policy Advisor - Governance will also work closely with GRM to ensure alignment with enterprise risk management practices.

What you will be doing:

  • Establishes implements maintains and monitors oversight and governance processes for ESG policies positions and standards.
  • Prepares quarterly reporting on E&S portfolio-level metrics and leads on continuous improvements to measures and analyses.
  • Supports the Risk Program and Global Risk Management on E&S related outputs and deliverables.
  • Responsible for the maintenance and update of the ESG Policy & Research teams documentation architecture.
  • Coordinates and ensures resolution of recommendations and/or findings by Internal Audit and the Office of the Auditor General (OAG).
  • Develops materials to support communication of ESG governance and risk management to internal stakeholders including executive audiences.
  • Develops and manages strong working relationships and maintains open dialogue with key internal stakeholders including the lines of business ESG Advisory and GRM.

What we are looking for:

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience (e.g. ESG sustainability risk management governance)
  • Working knowledge of risk management principles and practices particularly for environmental and social risks ideally in a financial or corporate context

Familiarity with ESG reporting and metrics including portfolio-level analysis and continuous improvement practices.

  • Knowledge of internal audit process and experience responding to audit findings or recommendations.

Experience establishing and maintaining governance processes and oversight mechanisms.

Skilled in documentation architecture management including version control and accessibility.

  • Undergraduate degree in related discipline (e.g. environmental studies business public policy risk management)
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) and ability to build and manage relationships with internal stakeholders
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy ability to multi-task and prioritize and ability to manage competing priorities and escalate issues effectively
  • Ability to anticipate risks and capacity-related constraints
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced evolving and cross-functional environment
