COLORADO BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION
The primary mission of the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is to meet the statutory responsibility and obligation to respond to requests from Sheriffs Police Chiefs District Attorneys other state agencies and the Governor on a 24-hour 7 day-per-week basis to assist in the detection investigation and enforcement of Colorado criminal laws.
The CBI is charged with the responsibility to investigate organized crime which cuts across jurisdictional boundaries of local law enforcement agencies and to locate and apprehend persons who are fugitives from the law.
The CBI also provides law enforcement services including managing statewide criminal justice information conducting criminal and civil background checks and operating an internationally-accredited forensic laboratory system. The units described below perform these functions:
Investigative Services - provides critical investigative assistance to law enforcement agencies for major crimes complex fraud cyber crimes drug offenses fugitive sex offenders cold case homicides firearms-related crimes crime scene and missing persons investigations.
Forensic Services - provides forensic investigative assistance to law enforcement agencies including DNA casework latent print analysis firearm and toolmark analysis drug chemistry analysis serology analysis trace evidence analysis digital analysis DNA database management and toxicology analysis.
SupportServices - CJIS operates information systems for local state and federal criminal justice agencies enabling them to exchange timely accurate and complete information. BIRU - serves as the state repository for criminal history information including fingerprint data. InstaCheck - serves as the state point of contact for background checks on firearms purchases and conducts concealed handgun permit background checks for sheriffs offices.
About the Work Unit
This work unit exists to fulfill statutory responsibility to provide major crimes investigations technical and investigative assistance to local and state agencies upon request and has jurisdiction pertaining to Colorados Organized Crime Control Act fugitive apprehension and firearms crimes through cooperation with local state and federal agencies. The work unit also exists to fulfill statutory requirements to provide an effective level of criminal enforcement in Colorado.
About the Job
This position is a POST Certified Peace Officer in Colorado and exists to provide coordination review and daily supervision of the operational activities conducted by Special Agents I-IV some current Special Agent Vs Analysts and other professional staff associated with the investigation of complex criminal violations. Also implements and ensures adherence to the policies and procedures of the agency associated with the CBI Investigations Section. This position establishes the required details and assignments necessary to carry out the investigative functions in an efficient and effective manner. This position oversees multiple work units and ensures the direction mission and objectives set forth by the executive staff are met while working closely with the Assistant Director of Investigations as a second tier supervisor between unit specific work unit supervision/work leaders and the Assistant Director. This position mentors and supervises members to encourage professional development and the attainment of career goals. Works with members to develop a comprehensive performance plan conducts a mid-year review and a final evaluation in accordance with current State of Colorado Personnel rules.

Minimum Qualifications:
Ten (10) years of professional investigative crimes against persons experience with a law enforcement agency one (1) of which must have been at the level of a work leader staff authority unit supervisor or equivalent.
Current Colorado POST certification in good standing.

Bachelors degreefrom an accredited institution in any field of study and six years of professional investigativecrimes against persons experience with a law enforcement agency one (1) of which must have been at the level of a work leader unit supervisor orequivalent.A combination of related education and/or professional investigative crimes against persons experience with a law enforcement agency equal to ten (10) years one (1) of which must have been at the level of a work leader staff authority unit supervisor or equivalent.
