Job Description

Position Summary

Provide competent classroom and laboratory instruction in the area of computer information systems. The instructor will adhere to the general faculty guidelines as specified by the Calhoun Community College Personnel Handbook the Vice President of Academic Affairs and Alabama Community College System policy.

Salary

Appropriate placement on ACCS Salary Schedule D1: $46590 $94363 (9 months)

An additional summer assignment may be available: $14384 $29184 (3 months)

(Salary placement within this range is determined by your academic credentials and documented years of full-time related work experience)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Provide competent classroom and laboratory instruction in the area of credentialed expertise.
  2. Evaluate the progress of students in all classes according to institutional divisional departmental and individual criteria.
  3. Collect maintain and submit accurate class records including grade reports attendance rosters absences withdrawal and other information to the appropriate offices.
  4. Teach at varied times and places and in varied formats based on student demand; day or evening at all sites in the traditional classroom hybrid or web format.
  5. Prepare or assist in the preparation of materials used in academic administration when requested including course syllabi program outlines course scheduling and catalog material.
  6. Participate in scheduled in-service activities Honors Day and Graduation ceremonies.
  1. Assist in the development of discipline-specific student learning outcome objectives.
  2. Assess student learning using multiple assessment strategies.
  3. Analyze and interpret data relative to student learning and provide feedback to the institution and students for the purpose of improving and expanding student learning.
  1. Provide academic and career advice to students and promote student leadership and enrichment experiences.
  2. Be prompt and punctual in reporting for work. Maintain assigned office hours.
  3. Continue as competent instructor in the chosen specialty by seeking new knowledge improving teaching skills and updating professional competencies.
  4. Promote positive and productive relationships with service area businesses industries and agencies;
  5. Provide advice to the administration on matters pertaining to the instructional program;
  6. Serve on institutional local and/or statewide committees engaged in furthering the work of the institution or program when appointed or when elected;
  7. Become familiar with institutional policies and procedures as outlined in the College Catalog Personnel Handbook and State Board Policy Manual; and follow such policies and procedures.

Qualifications

  1. A minimum of a Bachelors degree with at least 27 semester hours in engineering from an accredited institution is required.
  2. A minimum of 2 years of teaching experience at the post-secondary level is required.

Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate through their experiences and accomplishments

  1. Masters degree with at least 18 semester hours in engineering from an accredited institution;
  2. Recent experience in model-based systems engineering;
  3. Working knowledge of and hands-on experience with the model-based systems engineering;
  4. Successful teaching experience;
  5. Ability to conduct individual and small group instruction;
  6. Experience in conducting synchronous and asynchronous online instruction;
  7. Effective oral and written communication skills;
  8. Ability to learn new teaching pedagogy and new software as required;
  9. An understanding of and commitment to the philosophy and mission of the community college system;
  10. Ability to work independently and in a team environment;
  11. Previous experience using Blackboard or other course management software;
  12. Ability to deal effectively with diverse students other employees and the public;
  13. Commitment to all students including those of diverse ages cultures and ethnic backgrounds;
  14. Successful problem solving skills.
  15. Understanding of the broad range of students abilities in an open-admissions college and the ability to accommodate varied learning styles;
  16. Conscientious- care about how work is done and desire to do a good job;
  17. Initiative- responding to downtime by taking responsibility to do other work;
  18. A focus on detail;
  19. A focus on being friendly and patient in responding to students;
  20. Willingness and desire to learn new things and apply that knowledge;
  21. Willingness to maintain flexibility in order to meet student needs;
  22. A positive attitude regardless of circumstances at hand;
  23. Confidence in decision-making and communication skills.
