EL Tutoring (Screening and Monitoring Paperwork)

Job Goal:
Provides adult support to small groups of secondary and elementary school students to assist them in unique educational and cultural goals.
Follow tutoring guidelines as set forth by the EL Coordinator
Tutors are placed at the school sites to meet the unique educational and culturally related academic needs ofEnglish Language Learners so that such students can meet the challenging State academic standards. Tutors work toward helpingEL students acquire English as a second language to ensure academic success in the classroom.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Note - these duties vary based on individual student needs and individualized education plans.
Typical duties may include:
*Assist in screening incoming EL students
*Maintains paperwork and filing associated with EL monitoring and compliance
*Implement effective activities and strategies that enhance or supplement language instruction educational programs for ELs including parent family and community engagement.
Cleans and maintains an efficient work area.
Alerts assigned teacher of concerns related to the student.
Maintains confidentiality of student information.
Complies with all federal state and local laws board policies and procedures.
Utilizes professional behavior in all school-related interactions.
Assists teacher in monitoring students progress toward academic and behavioral goals.
Reinforces learning in small groups or with an individual student.
Provides one-on-one tutoring if it is scheduled at a time when a student would not otherwise receive instruction from a teacher.
Carries out instructional programs designed by the teacher.
Works with the teacher to develop classroom schedules.

Regular Requirements:
Stand for extended periods; walk; twist at the neck and trunk; bend and reach with hands and arms overhead above the shoulder and horizontally; repetitive use of fingers and hands to grasp and/or operate equipment and demonstrate lessons to students; lift/move up to 50 pounds.
