Casual Hire appointments may last for up to 89 days for full-time employees and up to 1 calendar year for part-time employees.

Other Conditions: Casual Hire temporary appointment is expected to begin October 2025 or soon thereafter. Not to exceed 89 days.

Duties:

  1. Help organize and coordinate undergraduate programs and other related partnership efforts that engage and guide individuals from Hawaii and the Pacific in study and career pathways related to the care and resilience of island resources and communities.
  2. Assist with leading the design planning and implementing of the Pacific Internship Programs for Exploring Science (PIPES) including managing program fiscal logistical recruitment implementation assessment and reporting.
  3. Ability to operate vehicles to access field sites.
  4. Develop and maintain collaborative and grant relationships with program partners across the university State and region to build and adapt programs to community needs.
  5. Work on increasing recruitment and retention of underrepresented students to fields of study related to the care study and resilience of island resources and communities in Hawaii and the Pacific by designing and developing new initiatives and coordinating efforts with university agency and community partners.
  6. Lead PIPES olelo Hawa11 initiative through partner collaboration and project development.
  7. Represent the office at statewide and region-wide conservation and education meetings and outreach events.
  8. Develop grants proposals and program evaluations manages program budget maintains program data and assists with grant reporting.
  9. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelors Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university in Geography Biology Agriculture or related conservation science community or natural resources field.
  2. Minimum six (6) months of experience coordinating experiential programs with participants of diverse backgrounds/cultures to assist with building their personal and professional pathways. with Hawaiian communities on collaborative projects.
  3. Minimum one (1) year of experience conducting scientific or applied research that included data collection and analysis.
  4. Experience working in collaboration with Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander communities and organizing community projects or service activities and building partnerships with institutional and community organizations.
  5. Fluent and proficient in the Native Hawaiian language.

Desirable Qualifications:

  1. Experience with internship programs at a college level with diverse audiences
  2. Knowledge of Hawaiis diverse ecosystems conservation challenges and social landscapes.
  3. Familiarity with scientific research methods relative to conservation biology.
  4. Knowledge of organizations in Hawaii involved with community conservation efforts.
  5. Demonstrated excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
  6. Demonstrated ability to recognize problems identify possible causes and resolve the full range of problems that may commonly occur.
