The purpose of this position is to plan coordinate and administer cadet counseling activities of the Academy; conduct interviews and review the personal file of each cadet to better understand the cadet and to provide appropriate services; select or develop tests and other measurable techniques to determine each cadets abilities aptitudes and deficiencies; assist each cadet to adjust to the Academy and to make a successful transition to the home community; select or develop techniques to assist cadets to gain a better understanding and awareness of themselves; establish rapport with with at-risk youth and applying techniques of assessing the behavioral/psychological aspects of youth problems; assist staff to work more effectively with individual cadets; the incumbent may be required to perform duties on a non-standard work schedule; i.e. evenings and/or weekends to support the requirements of the Tarheel ChalleNGe Academy; provide scheduled and emergency counseling services to cadets when needed; coordinate and make cadet referrals to community resources when required; assist with cadet goal planning activities. Organize and prepare accurate records and reports. Interact with officers of the court that need access to Cadets while attending Tarheel ChalleNGe Academy. Transport and supervise cadets when participating in off-site Academy activities.
