Opportunity Summary:
The primary focus will be the social emotional needs of students and application of human services skills. The opportunities may include observational and supportive roles under the guidance of the related services providers (MSW OT Behavior Interventionist) one-on-one support of students in the classroom as well as collaborative team planning.
Opportunity time frame:
All field placements will be for the duration of one semester (15 weeks). Internships (Juniors) are 90 hours. Practicum (Seniors) is 360 hours. The start date for the upcoming semester is January 26 2026.
Eligibility requirements:
Students who have been referred from the Counseling and Human Services Field Placement coordinator at Stevenson University.
Students who have an interest in working with students with children with emotional disabilities and autism spectrum disorders.
Students who have completed the necessary pre-requisite coursework at Stevenson University.
Learning model:
Learning models will be experiential/hands on learning observational and shadowing and reflective practice.
Learning objectives:
Students will collaborate with their Sheppard Pratt field instructor to identify learning objectives. These objectives generally include the following areas: Understanding clients needs Cultural Competence Professional Growth and Intervention Skills and Strategies.
Tasks:
Tasks can include classroom and one-on-one assistance assisting with group interventions with related services observation of team meetings (with the consent of the students guardian).
