Enza Zaden is looking for an enthusiastic intern to join our team for a 6-month internship starting in mid-February.

This is why you want to join us as Intern Seed Production Research at Enza Zaden

As an intern in Seed Production Research you will work together with researchers at the Seed Production Research and related departments. At Enza Zaden we are deeply committed to delivering healthy pathogen-free seeds through rigorous quality control and continuous innovation. Within this goal your main objective during your internship will be to develop a grow-out for detection of a seed transmitted virus mediated by its fungal vector in order to decipher and understand seed transmission rates. It will be therefore important for you to ensure that the right detection strategy is in place and to understand the tripartite interaction (plant/virus/fungi). Your investigations will carry on in from the greenhouse environment to the laboratory in Enza Zaden Enkhuizens facilities.

Key tasks include:

Propagation of fungus and virus together and independently

  • Comparison of different detection methods in different plant tissues for virus detection

  • Development of a sampling strategy for resource optimization

  • Determination of viral seed transmission rate with/without fungal vector

The internship involves data analysis throughout the project and preparing reports based on the results. Your deliverables will include:

  • A comprehensive literature review

  • A report summarizing experimental data

  • Raw data files in an understandable format

  • A final presentation in English for Seed Research and Innovation employees and other Enza colleagues

The internship will take place at our facilities in Enza Zaden.
