Job Summary

Do you have a knack for fixing things and a commitment to keeping facilities running smoothly The City of Edmontons Parks and Roads Services is looking for a dedicated Maintenance Repair Person 1 to join our team in Branch Integrated Support Services. This is an exciting opportunity to use your diverse trade skills in a dynamic environment ensuring our yards and buildings are safe and fully functional. Youll handle a variety of maintenance requests from carpentry and painting to plumbing and hardware repairs. This position is integral to the long-term success of serving our community by maintaining essential facilities. You will be responsible for yard and building maintenance performing routine repairs and ensuring all work is completed safely and efficiently. A key component of this role involves operating a truck to transport equipment and materials to job sites basic maintenance of small equipment and managing store stock. You will apply your organization and prioritization skills to address constantly changing priorities and work orders. You will also play a role in mentoring less experienced labourers and providing excellent service to colleagues and community partners.

What will you do

  • Respond to yard and building maintenance requests completing the necessary work and repairs

  • Perform general maintenance including cleaning painting and rough carpentry work on buildings doors tables benches desks and signage

  • Maintain and service various types of fire extinguishers

  • Perform routine tasks such as replacing filters and repairing faucets or dishwashers

  • Operate a truck to transport equipment and materials to and from job sites

  • Prepare and organize all required supplies materials equipment and safety gear to complete assignments

  • Receive pick up deliver and issue store stock and other materials

  • Assist with snow removal and spread sand/ice melt around yards during winter months

  • Advise the Yard Leader of major problems or delays that could affect productivity goals

  • Adhere to standard operating procedures and participate in safety and environmental programs including performing hazard assessments

  • Other duties as required

  • Completion of Grade 10

  • One (1) year of experience in Yard Operations

  • One (1) year of experience in Building Maintenance

Assets:

  • Apprentice Certificates in a relevant trade

  • Three (3) years of experience in Yard and Building Maintenance including repair work

  • Experience with SAP and Google Suite

  • Experience in Stores Operations

Skills required for success:

  • Ability to Stay Organized and prioritize work assignments in an environment with constantly changing priorities and tight timelines

  • Strong Interpersonal Skills with the ability to provide excellent service and appropriate communication with employees community partners and engagement participants

  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret plans follow directions and complete work order instructions

  • Practical Problem-Solving skills to quickly identify problems and determine the most safe effective and efficient way to do the job

  • Basic Computer skills for email and data entry

  • Demonstrated knowledge of purchasing requisitioning procedures and Inventory Control practices

Conditions of Employment:

  • Successful candidates will be fit for a respirator and compliance with the City of Edmontons Code of Practice for Respiratory Protective Equipment including medical monitoring is a requirement of this position

  • Compliance with the City of Edmontons safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as wearing steel-toe boots gloves goggles sunscreen and coveralls

  • Candidates are required to hold a valid Alberta Class 5 drivers licence (or provincial equivalent) or higher. Obtaining and maintaining a City Drivers permit is a requirement of this position

  • Possession of current Standard First Aid CPR-C and AED certifications

Salary Range: $35.869 (Hourly); $74894.470 (Annually)
