Description: The Electrophysiology Curriculum Coordinator is responsible for providing professional quality work as a teaching faculty member with a specific focus on the electrophysiology (EP) aspects within the Invasive Cardiovascular Technology (CVT) Program at the Claude W. Smith School of Cardiovascular Technology (MUSC Health). This role involves the coordination and instruction of EP-focused courses within the prescribed curriculum ensuring students receive comprehensive programmatic and technical instruction exposure and experience in the field of invasive electrophysiology.
Job Summary: Assists the Invasive Program Director and faculty with the development coordination and instruction of EP-related didactic laboratory and clinical courses. This includes preparing and delivering engaging lectures simulation education and pre-practicum activities that align with current best practices and accreditation guidelines in electrophysiology. The Coordinator will be responsible for compiling administering and grading examinations competencies evaluations and projects to assess student learning in the cognitive affective and psychomotor domains.
This role also involves:
Coordinating schedules and instruction in both the classroom and clinical environments as assigned.
Ensuring all students receive adequate programmatic and technical instruction exposure and experience in electrophysiology.
Working closely with faculty and clinical sites to evaluate student clinical and didactic performance specifically within EP.
Maintaining inventory of appropriate pre-practicum/simulation supplies and equipment at clinical and/or laboratory training sites relevant to EP.
Assisting the CVT faculty with maintaining simulation education & Clinical records including outcome measures related to student learning in EP simulation experiences and performance in clinical education.
Coordinating activities in the pre-clinical clinical laboratory and simulation education settings as they relate to electrophysiology as determined by the needs of the Invasive Program Director.
Supervising and coordinating schedules of Invasive CVT students and clinical associates specifically for EP rotations or experiences; providing guidance and direction to assigned clinical instructors and clinical associates on proper evaluative and instructional techniques in electrophysiology.
Evaluating clinical experiences at affiliated clinical sites in terms of quality quantity and appropriateness of EP focused student learning experiences using various techniques including student evaluations.
Serving as a liaison with clinical sites used for extramural clinical or laboratory educational experiences in electrophysiology.
Visiting clinical sites on a regularly scheduled basis to ensure uniform and consistent EP practice within accreditation guidelines.
Developing and maintaining records that demonstrate outcome measures such as EP clinical experiences student records and employer data related to EP competencies.
Providing students with access to hospital/clinical affiliate orientation documents and any other relevant documents required by the hospital/clinical affiliates for EP rotations.
Monitoring students compliance in completing submitting and/or uploading any required health reports drug screens criminal background checks and hospital/clinical affiliates requirements as determined by the Invasive Program Director for EP rotations.
Providing academic assistance and mentorship to students as needed particularly in the area of electrophysiology.
Actively participating in assigned program curriculum planning and development with a focus on integrating the latest advancements and best practices in electrophysiology within accreditation guidelines.
Participating in admission selection efforts for qualified students interested in the Invasive CVT program with an emphasis on EP.
Participating in departmental committee and other program meetings; attending local state and regional meetings to support the development of assigned programs particularly in the field of electrophysiology.
Communicating regularly with Cath/EP Lab Leadership (managers directors and clinical preceptors) regarding student performance and curriculum issues related to electrophysiology.
Teaching in the pre-practicum clinical simulation education and/or didactic setting as determined by the Invasive Program Director.
Assisting with the set-up and take down of the pre-practicum/simulation supplies and/or equipment. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: Graduated from an accredited Invasive focused Cardiovascular and/or Electrophysiology Technology Program; and/or equivalent education and/or experience being no less than three years within the field of CVT as an Electrophysiology Technologist.
Required License Certification and Registration: Preferred current Registered Cardiovascular Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) certification. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification. If applicable American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) and South Carolina Radiation Quality Standards Act (SCRQSA) also required.
Physical Requirements: Physical: Routinely requires the ability to see hear and speak. Routinely requires sitting bending stooping walking. On occasion incumbents may be required to lift 20 or more pounds. Environmental: Normal classroom and clinical settings. Mental: Routinely requires the ability to interpret analyze perform critical thinking skills and communicate effectively and professionally.
