What you get to do:
The Manager Payroll will provide operational oversight and quality control of the payroll processing business process; act as an SME on payroll processing and payroll guidelines/laws; and provide direction/support to the payroll processing team.
- Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the Workday Payroll system and processes.
- Process hourly salary and special payrolls.
- Oversee the payroll processing activities for all payroll runs helping to ensure accuracy and quality control.
- Manage & oversee customer service contacts related to payroll questions & issues.
- Manage and oversee associated Payroll tasks (garnishments & liens escheatment etc.).
- Mentor and provide guidance and continued professional development of the payroll team.
- Research and assist in the resolution of complex payroll and timekeeping issues/problems.
- Support and troubleshoot data between Payroll/Timekeeping and multiple third-party systems (employee benefits stock equity tuition reimbursement etc.).
- Build customized reports and analysis of HR and Payroll data as required for both internal (i.e. Finance Legal Audit etc.) and external (regulatory external audit etc.) audiences.
- Participate as a core Total Rewards team member on projects/activities such as system upgrades configuration of new policies and changes recurring annual projects (year-end activities W2 preparation annual audits etc.) and implementation of processes systems and technology.
- Provide continuous improvement opportunities for employees on best practices related to Payroll guidelines and timekeeping and share/communicate best practices with stakeholders.
What it takes to succeed:
- A minimum of three years experience in Payroll processing (preferably in a multi-unit/multi-state organization; prior use of Workday Payroll strongly preferred).
- Detailed knowledge/understanding of payroll taxation topics.
- Detailed knowledge of time and labor laws & guidelines.
- Prior experiencing managing/leading small teams.
- Excellent problem solving and analytical abilities.
- Excellent organizational and customer service skills.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate professionally to all levels of the organization.

- Knowledge of multi-state payroll regulations taxes and compliance with strong emphasis on California-specific laws and regulations.
