Other Conditions: Appointment to begin approximately October 2025 pending position clearance and availability of funding.

Provides comprehensive healthcare for student-athletes including injury prevention treatment

rehabilitation and emergency care. Collaborates with physicians coaches and staff to support student athlete well- being and ensure compliance with university NCAA and federal regulations. May lead athletic training operations in the Head Athletic Trainers absence.


Duties and Responsibilities (denotes essential functions)

  1. Provide medical care and injury management for student-athletes during team practices and competitions for assigned sports including travel support on trips averaging 57 days approximately 23 times per month.

  2. *Administer first aid CPR AED and manage health hazards such as communicable diseases.

  3. *Assess injury risk and promote wellness through prevention strategies and ergonomic coaching.

  4. *Implement and monitor rehabilitation and reconditioning programs based on medical diagnosis.

  5. *Assist Team Physician and Head Athletic Trainer in determining athlete readiness to compete and refer to medical professionals when needed.

  6. *Support concussion management protocols and game-day training services including visiting teams.

  7. Oversee athletic training room operations in absence of Head Athletic Trainer.

  8. *Coordinate training room procedures and maintain rehab equipment and modalities.

  9. *Maintain accurate medical records and communicate with physicians regarding athlete care.

  10. *Schedule medical appointments and transportation for student-athletes.

  11. *Provide counseling and referrals for medical and non-medical concerns.

  12. *Conduct pre-participation physical exams and supervise athletic training students/volunteers.

  13. *Ensure proper medical supplies and equipment are packed for travel and coordinate field procedures.

  14. *Collaborate with coaches staff and stakeholders to support athlete wellbeing and program safety.

  15. Uphold confidentiality Clery Act responsibilities and compliance with UH NCAA and legal regulations.

  16. Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Possession of a baccalaureate degree in athletics training physical education kinesiology or related field and 3 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for athletic training in intercollegiate sports medicine; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education knowledge skills and abilities as indicated.

  2. Considerable working knowledge of principles practices and techniques in the area of athletic training in intercollegiate sports medicine as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts principles and methodologies.

  3. Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws rules regulations and theories and systems associated with athletic training in intercollegiate sports medicine.

  4. Demonstrated ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective innovative and timely manner.

  5. Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.

  6. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations groups team leaders and members and individuals.

  7. Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer apply word processing software.

  8. Valid Board of Certification (BOC) for Athletic Trainers and State of Hawaii Athletic Trainer license (or obtained upon hire).

  9. Current CPR/AED certification.

  10. Knowledge of sports medicine principles including injury prevention treatment rehabilitation and emergency care.

  11. Ability to evaluate injuries administer therapeutic treatments and instruct student-athletes in care and recovery plans.

  12. Skilled in emergency response including CPR fracture immobilization hemorrhage control stabilization and safe transport.

  13. Understanding of personal hygiene nutrition and first aid practices related to athletic performance and recovery.

  14. Working knowledge of NCAA OSHA and HIPAA standards.

  15. Strong organizational time management and customer service skills.

  16. Division I/II/III NAIA or Community College athletic training experience.

  17. Must be able to work nights weekends and holidays during athletic related scheduled events.
