The Resource and Screening nurse works as a member of the HPS nursing team based in health services offices and supports the RN School Nurses districtwide. The Resource and Screening nurse addresses a variety of healthcare needs of Holyokes students serves as a resource for health information and coordinates and participates in screening programs across the district. The ideal candidate will possess a professional and positive attitude as well as the ability to work independently and collaboratively within the nursing team and school environment. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact warmly and professionally with students families and staff are essential. We are seeking an individual with exceptional nursing organizational and communication skills as well as sound judgment and dependability to join our established nursing team. JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Works under the general supervision of the Director of Health Wellness & Nursing Pupil Services Chief and the Supt./Receiver. Works collaboratively and cooperatively with the school nurse and building administrator to whom assigned.
- Collaborates with School Personnel to maintain a healthful school environment
- Collaborates with school nurses to coordinate state-mandated screening programs
- Coordinates and participates in all aspects of the districts screening program
- Participates in and supports the districts response to communicable diseases such as the Flu RSV and COVID-19.
- Maintains up-to-date school records
- Demonstrate knowledge of and the ability to administer medications and treatments as ordered and in keeping with school policy on the administration of medication and special procedures in school.
- Provides medically prescribed interventions including caring for ill or injured children on a daily basis.
- Maintains accurate electronic SNAP records of medications/treatments/procedures as administered to student(s). Electronically documents health-related activities and treatments daily as appropriate.
- Maintains screening and medical equipment and supplies to ensure proper functioning storage and availability for intended use.
- Acts as a resource in health education to school personnel students and families.
- Uses community resources for referral of students with unmet health needs including screening referrals and the need for a primary care provider.
- Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Graduate of a Licensed Practical Nursing Program approved by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing.
- Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in pediatrics community health or other relevant clinical nursing settings
- CPR Certified
- A drivers License and own transportation are required for district-wide nursing responsibilities
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; excellent teamwork skills
REQUIRED LICENSE(S):
- Current LPN licensure to practice nursing in Massachusetts
