Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

The Psychoeducation Specialist provides direct patient care under the guidance of a designated healthcare professional in accordance with federal state and local regulations and within policies procedures and guidelines of Bon Secours Mercy Health.

Essential Job Functions

  • Facilitates groups. Provides Individual activities tailored to specific needs of patients (within scope). May participate in family meetings and treatment team meetings.

  • Discharge planning in collaboration with Social Worker team

  • Community resource knowledge and coordination of activities; particularly in the area of specialized activities such as pet therapy nutrition yoga.

  • Completes leisure assessments

  • Care planning

  • May provide 1:1 patient safety companion service as needed.

  • May provide 15-minute patient checks as assigned.

  • Successfully participates to complete BSMH and departmental specific training as

Licensing/Certification

Must be licensed certified or registered as appropriate by state and national licensing boards in one of the following:

Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS)

Registered Art Therapist (ATR)

Provisional Registered Art Therapist (ATR-P)

Board Certified Art Therapist (ATR-BC)

Music Therapist-Board Certified (MT-BC)

Registered Dance/Movement Therapist (R-DMT)

Occupational Therapist Licensed (OTR/L)

Education

Bachelors Occupational Therapy Recreational Therapy or Expressive Therapy (Music Dance/Movement) Counseling or Human Services (required)

Work Experience

1 year in social or human services setting (required)

Patient Population

Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit.

Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development of the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patients status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patients requirements relative to his or her age specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in departmental policies and procedures.

Working Conditions
