ROLE- Lead Mechanical Engineer

LOCATION- Bristol

TERM- Permanent

SALARYdependent on experience

My client is a specialist manufacturer. They are looking for a Lead Mechanical Engineer to join their team in Bristol on a permanent basis.

The role will involve designing testing and developing bespoke products and managing a small team.

The Lead Mechanical Design Engineer will ideally have the following attributes:

  • Be a self-starter with strong leadership skills and the ability to think outside the box and own projects
  • At least 5 years experience in a similar Mechanical Design / Mechanical Testing / Product Development position
  • Experience designing bespoke products from scratch
  • Analytical mind-set and good problem-solving skills
  • Degree / HNC / HND / BTEC / NVQ / qualified in Mechanical Engineering or similar
  • Be proficient using 3D CAD software such as Inventor SolidWorks Creo etc.
  • Knowledge of a variety of materials and manufacturing processes sheet metal machining injection moulded plastics etc.
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Good theoretical mechanical engineering knowledge of core principles and tight tolerances
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both verbal and written
  • Be able to work well individually as well as part of a team

The Lead Mechanical Design Engineer role will involve:

  • Leading and Project Managing the Design Prototyping Development Testing and Introduction of new products
  • Managing 4-6 direct reports
  • Using 3D CAD for concept design and producing technical drawings
  • Successfully delivering projects on time and on budget
  • Designing and developing new products
  • Maintaining technical documentation as required
  • Liaising with manufacturing providers
  • Being involved in final assembly of products
  • Creating the required documentation for design as well as project reports / plans
  • Updating 3D models and drawings
  • Inputting parts into the MRP system creating BOMs
  • Checking drawings for sign off
  • Working in a small multidisciplinary team
