This position will offer a qualified candidate the opportunity to work in Raytheons Materials and Process Engineering (M&PE) Department servicing all of Raytheon with innovative solutions to nonstandard problems. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to work in M&PEs world class lab performing hands-on-testing of adhesives elastomers polymers tapes composites metals and various other production materials vital to the success of our products.
What You Will Do
- Test a wide array of materials for compliance with drawings specifications and program application.
- Work in a wet lab observing all safety procedures and common lab protocols.
- Write scientific reports using generated data to support technical dispositions.
What You Will Learn:
- How to perform material testing using FTIR DSC hardness gauges mechanical testing machines and more
- How to follow written test instructions and test a wide array of materials for compliance
- Reading and interpreting numerous types of requirements and specifications.
Qualifications You Must Have:
- This position is for an intern who is enrolled in a Bachelors (or higher) degree program and will be at minimum entering their Sophomore year by the start of summer 2026
- Must be pursuing as Bachelors or graduate degree in Science Technology Engineering or Mathematics (STEM).
- Course work or lab experience in Materials Engineering or Instrumental Analysis
Qualifications We Prefer:
- Specific Majors: Materials Science and Engineering Chemical Engineering Chemistry Mechanical Engineering
- Completion of General Chemistry and Organic Chemistry courses and labs
- An understanding of material testing/analysis such as: hardness adhesion tests sample preparation procedures and cross sectioning
- Experience in performing and managing high volume highly technical work
