Indian River State College is seeking a passionate and experienced nursing professional to join our team as a Student Advocate this dynamic role youll mentor and support nursing students promote academic achievement and help drive retention and NCLEX success through evidence-based strategies.

JOB SUMMARY:

Under general supervision this position is responsible for enhancing the educational experience and success of students. Organizes and assists with student-centered activities under the Nursing Workforce Expansion Grant program. Collaborates with faculty and staff to develop and promote student success and supporting initiatives aimed at improving student retention. Provides academic support mentors students and works closely with faculty and staff. Keeps abreast of current college policies participates in job training and utilizes various resources to enhance student learning. Fosters an environment conducive to student success and fulfills all duties necessary to support the colleges educational objectives.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Engages students in early identification intervention remediation and other evidence-based coaching strategies for improved retention progression academic success and NCLEX success.
  • Mentors advises tutors monitors and supports students as part of an assigned caseload and collaborates closely with Advisors faculty and students.
  • Monitors student performance weekly and maintains regular communication with students as well as their faculty members and refers the student to other academic or psychosocial resources as deemed appropriate.
  • Collaborates with faculty and staff to develop organize and promote co-curricular events that complement academic programs.
  • Travels to all campuses as required and commits to flexibility in work hours including some nights and weekends.
  • Manages comprehensive data collection and analyses to assess program impacts and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Completes all other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelors degree in Nursing from an accredited institution;
  • Minimum of two (2) years clinical experience as a registered nurse;
  • Minimum of two (2) years of proven experience in clinical nursing practice in an acute care setting
  • Current Florida license as a Registered Nurse or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN).
  • Current/active CPR certification.
  • Must have current nursing knowledge to provide patient care safely and competently within the scope of practice set forth by the Florida Board of Nursing.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the Division of Nursings mission philosophy goals and student outcomes.
  • Proven experience in mentoring advising and/or teaching students in a higher education setting.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to student success strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact well with students faculty and administration
  • Excellent oral and written communication public speaking and data management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to collect analyze and utilize data effectively.
  • Able to work independently as well as collaboratively within the nursing discipline.
  • Sensitivity to and ability to respond to the individual needs of a culturally diverse student population.
  • Proficiency in the use of technology for classroom and clinical instruction including but not limited to distance education.
  • Proficiency in the use of technology modalities Microsoft Office and internet applications. High attention to detail excellent judgment and a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to represent the college positively in all interactions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This position requires an ability to sit stand walk bend lift reach up stoop and carry items occasionally more than fifty (50) pounds. Physical skills required include the ability to lift heavy boxes and materials to move equipment from room to room and to work for extended periods at a computer station. It also requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines such as copier fax telephone and other equipment as necessary. IRSC expects its employees to follow proper safety standards while employed by the College.
