Job Description:

Role Summary:

The Sun Life Application Operation Services organizations (AOS) focus is to provide a positive digital user experience that is seamless available and valuable for our Canadian and global business partners and clients by delivering the support and quality that ensures our technologies are fully functional secure resilient and highly stable.

The Senior Support Engineer is a member of the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Operations Support team which is responsible for supporting production applications within the Data & Analytics platform.

What will you do

  • Maintain and support end-to-end application operations for the AWS Data & Analytics platform
    • Analyze and resolve complex data discrepancies in the data lake
    • Monitor and support jobs and application performance
    • Monitor identify and implement operational improvements
    • Ensure compliance withIncident Problem and Change Management policies and processes
    • Deploy enhancements to production using DevOps tooling (BitBucket CICD Pipeline Ansible Jenkins)
    • Participate in rotational on-call operational support including after hours support
  • Ensure appropriate prioritizationand resolution of defects in accordance with agreed upon SLA
  • Provide on-going communication to key stakeholders to ensure they are aware of significant changes in a timely manner
  • Provide technical documentation that includes design and operational support documentation
  • Deliver innovative solutions by leveraging data and technology
  • Engage influence and work collaboratively with Project Teams Operation teamsand vendors
  • Develop an understanding of the business applications supported as well as the business direction

What do you need to succeed

  • Bachelors degree in computer science and engineering or equivalent experience
  • 4 years experience with Big Data solutions preferably using AWS or equivalent Public Cloud
  • Experience using AWS Glue Lambda Redshift Sagemaker and Python/R
  • Experience using Hive EMR S3 and querying in Linux and SQL Servers
  • Experience with ETL Tools (Informatica on premise or Cloud)
  • Experience working with very large data sets including knowledge of how to build programsthat leverage distributed computing
  • Strong analytic troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills

Additional assets

  • Experience with DevOps tools
  • ITIL V3 Certification
  • AWS Cloud Practitioner Certification
  • Knowledge of GitHub Copilot

As a condition of the role the successful candidate must obtain a Government of Canada Reliability Status security clearance through Sun Life in advance of the start date

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other addition to Base Pay eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
