About Pittsburgh Arts & Lectures (PA&L) Through our five signature lecture series PA&L connects celebrated authors with the community elevates civic discourse and inspires creativity and a passion for the literary arts. Our commitment to knowledge learning integrity and artistic excellence guides and informs our work. We present approximately 40 events each year. Our five signature program series include: - Ten Evenings our mainstage series where we present celebrated authors generously sharing their research and creative process in conversational lectures. - New & Noted brings touring authors to Pittsburgh with their newly released titles. - Words & Pictures presents acclaimed childrens authors and illustrators to readers of all ages. - Made Local showcases talented local authors as well as books and writers with a Pittsburgh connection. - Poets Aloud features readings by nationally recognized poets.
Summary The Program and Events Manager plays an integral role in a dynamic literary organization presenting 40 events each year with our supportive highly collaborative and passionate staff. The position is responsible for the authors to school program the organization external communications and the coordination of all aspects of the events production.
Position Responsibilities
Authors to Schools Program
works closely with the Executive Director to plan and coordinate the Authors to Schools program of PA&L;
Sustains the existing relationships with the partner schools and expands our reach
Maintains a detailed record of school visits
Follows each visit with an email to thank and request feedback from the instructor(s) (point of contact).
Assists the Ticketing Manager in the planning and realization of PA&Ls events;
Works as a liaison between the organization and the talents (speakers)
Prepares and distributes the event itineraries to the necessary parties in a timely manner
Facilitates the booking of hotel and transportation for the talents
Immerses oneself in the literary community to stay up-to-date on upcoming publications to plays in an important role in suggesting possible new events
Updates our bookstores partners in a timely manner of upcoming events
Schedules venues drivers photographer volunteers and other event participants as needed and provides and maintains excellent communication and professional relationships.
Assists the Development Manager to gain experience in grant writing and donor relations
Provides elaborate data to the Development Manager on the Authors to Schools program and events to facilitate the grant writing process.
Works closely with the Marketing Specialist and Ticketing Manager to help manage the social media presence of the organization;
Gains a good understanding of how the events are performing to advise the marketing specialist on where needs the most help.
Helps to promote the events on social media and within ones circle.
Coordinates and maintains the organizations external communication
Composes and schedules the organizations monthly newsletters and external mass emails.
General
Participates as an active team member collaborating to envision plan and execute program and marketing strategies aligned with PA&Ls mission and values.
Participates in DEAI staff development sessions.
Other duties as assigned.
Position Qualifications and Proficiencies The ideal candidate is eager to advance their career in a mission-focused arts nonprofit with a commitment to community diversity and the essential role literature plays in civic life. They are an excellent communicator and imaginative are curious and have great interpersonal skills have an aptitude for computer technology and are eager to learn new skills.

2 years of working experience with event management software.
Commitment to community diversity andtheessential role of literature and the arts.
Strongoral and written communication skills.
Ability to learn quickly with a high degree of comfortwith numbers and technology.
Organized efficient anddeadline oriented.
Works well in acollaborative supportive fun and positivework environment.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
A passion for literary arts and community and the ability to work collaboratively with a small supportive staff.
Availability and ability to attend meetings evening events and programs outside the office.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.

Salary $55000 - $60000 plus full healthcare coverage generous paid time off for vacation sick time and holidays and a 25% match for a 403b retirement plan.
Benefits The regular hours for our 37.5-hour work week are 9:30 am to 5:00 pm. We offer 100% employer-provided Medical Dental Vision and Disability Insurance plans with excellent coverage and a 403(b) retirement plan with 25% matching from PA&L. Paid time off includes vacation days sick time holidays and personal time. Additional benefits include work-from-home Fridays and a parking pass for our Oakland office.
