The Town of Erie is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented undergraduate or graduate-level Civil Engineer Intern to join the Engineering division within the Public Works Department in the summer of 2026! Expected employment dates will be from May - August 2026.
This temporary paid internship offers a valuable opportunity to gain hands-on experience in Civil Engineering while working under the guidance of experienced Engineering intern will support various projects including construction support attending project meetings public engagement program monitoring and other engineering-related tasks.
The internship is a temporary position that is expected to run from mid-May to mid-August 2026 with the potential for extension based on department needs. A minimum commitment of 20 hours per week is required anticipated to be 40 hours per week. This position may require both office and/or field presence and may be eligible for college credit. All staff are expected to adhere to the Towns mission vision and values of T.R.U.E.
The anticipated start date will be in the month of May 2026

Anticipated Work Schedule:
- Town Hall is open between 8:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m. A minimum commitment of 20 hours per week is required anticipated to be 40 hours per week. This position may require both office and/or field presence.
- This position is eligible to work remotely one to two days per week dependent upon successful completion of the probationary period and supervisor approval. Schedule may vary depending on specific needs.
- Must be able to work on-call schedule as assigned and understands the On-Call policy for the department.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Typical duties for this role include but are not limited to:
- Maintain records and file documents in compliance with Town policies.
- Support engineering staff with inquiries.
- Perform fieldwork as needed including site visits and documentation.
- Attend meetings at the Town County and Regional levels including some outside typical office hours.
- Coordinate with other Town departments including Parks & Recreation Police and Environmental Services on specific projects.
- Collaborate with the Communications & Community Engagement Department and assist with public outreach and information.
- Perform other engineering -related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.

- Familiar in relevant software ArcGIS Microsoft Word/Excel AutoCAD Bluebeam Revu
- Strong research analytical and problem-solving skills
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks
- Flexibility and a willingness to engage in diverse engineering projects
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Job Expectations:
- Opportunity for remote work with a requirement of being in-office a minimum of 3 days a week dependent on business needs.
- Must be able to operate a motor vehicle safely if required to be out in the field within Erie to perform the duties of the position. A motor vehicle record will be pulled through the post-offer background check and annually thereafter.
Pre-employment screenings include:Reference checks - Background checks include: National and County Criminal Scan Sex-Offender Registry check and Motor Vehicle Report through DMV
