A catalyst for creativity and learning The Prior Performing Arts Center amplifies the arts at Holy Cross and provides the College the greater Worcester community and visiting creative thinkers with an inspiring environment to pursue diverse questions of the human experience. An active classroom laboratory performance venue and exhibition site that opened at the College in 2022 the Prior Performing Arts Center offers world-class spaces to experience and train in the performing and creative arts fostering collaboration across artistic disciplines and catalyzing transformational exchange between the arts and other fields.
Team Environment

Programming production and operations staff at The Prior share the following goals:
Enable the success of the creative and performing arts departments (a.k.a. Principle Clients) by hosting departmental programs within appropriate Prior venues; by providing superb technical expertise and administrative support as required to ensure high-quality offerings; and by enhancing and elevating Holy Cross national reputation as a leading destination for creative and performing arts talent.

Present leading arts voices to multiple audiences (College city/community region nation) under the banner of the Prior Presents series and through other public-facing or community-oriented offerings.
Incubate cross-disciplinary learning and support creative collaboration by working together with individual faculty departments academic programs and other units including The Cantor Art Gallery which is housed on the third floor of the center to originate and host arts-based and arts-integrative programs.

Foster a diverse inclusive community related to the arts.

Develop and enhance relationships with greater Worcester through targeted opportunities to develop educational and arts-based programming with local community members and/or to host community-led programming related to the arts.

Host special events within appropriate Prior venues (as requested by the College) in order to promote prospective student family alumni and philanthropic engagement with Holy Cross.
Job Description

Reporting to the Pro Audio/Video Supervisor this technician will assist in all aspects of audio video and multimedia for all production and event services at the Prior Performing Arts Center including livestreaming recording and editing. This position is responsible for the healthy functioning of the Booth Media Lab maintenance of software and firmware of Priors A/V products recording and video editing suites and design studio. The Technician will offer professional support in venues for the Department of Theater & Dance the Department of Music and the Prior Presents series. The ideal candidate is invested in all phases of audio/video production from creation to finished product as well as providing excellent service and ideas to visiting artists. Along with the Pro Audio/Video Supervisor this position will help train employees contractors and students in safe electrical and venue protocols as needed. This position will also work closely with a campus-wide A/V department for multimedia needs in Prior classroom environments. The Pro Audio/Video Technician will assist the Pro Audio/Video Supervisor in planning and budgeting purchases as well as allocation maintenance and inventory of audio equipment video equipment and related expendables.

Major Areas of Responsibility
  • Assist in managing and maintaining the sound recording studio media lab video suite and control booth in The Prior including the facilities software firmware and equipment in order to maintain standards of organization and safety.
  • Setup and operate systems for sound reinforcement video projection live-streaming and recording
  • Assist in the advancing creating and successful execution of sound plots and paperwork for all performances and events.
  • Operate and program sound consoles including setting up/striking.
  • Maintain and repair audio/video equipment. Manage and maintain audio and video inventories.
  • Assist in managing and maintaining recording and video archives and storage.
  • Assist in training and administration of student workers in the performance of audio video and general stage production duties.
  • Manage student worker crews for live events and performances.
  • Mentor students in the use of the technology and facilitate broader support for The Prior with campus AV.
  • Attend production meetings rehearsals technical research previews and performances as needed
  • Works with other Prior personnel on non-technical work-related needs such as setting up tables chairs stanchions etc. for events.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Experience with video capture retention and editing.
  • Prior experience in AV or as an Audio Supervisor/head Sound or Audio Engineer at a professional theater recording studio and/or academic arts institutions
  • Knowledge of Vectorworks or similar CAD software.
  • Experience in the recording of various music styles and theatrical performances in various settings
  • Experience with various methods of live sound reinforcement including sound systems live electronics and performances featuring amplified and non-amplified performers.
  • Experience with digital/analog consoles and wireless systems.
  • Experience with both live and streaming mixing as well as multitrack recording
  • Experience with a multitrack editing software (Reaper Logic Ableton etc)
  • Knowledge of rigging for sound.
  • Excellent trouble-shooting skills.
  • Ability to work productively under time pressures and to meet deadlines
  • Ability to adapt to and change between unconventional venues (galleries outdoor stages street events).
  • Ability to work collaboratively communicate clearly and diplomatically with attention to detail.
  • Experience working with students or in an educational setting
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in audio engineering music technology or related field
  • Experience with Dante networking Allen & Heath dLive Consoles Shure
    ULXD Birddog NDI Crestron NVX QSYS
  • Experience with ClearCom Encore (Analog) and HelixNet (Digital) paging and assisted listening technology
  • Experience with various cameras lighting for video video switchers video editing and video storage and retrieval systems.
Work Conditions
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule with availability on weekends evenings and holidays in support of the PPAC event schedule.
  • This position may require work in dimly lit or confined areas.
  • The majority of the workday is spent indoors and onsite but may require working outdoors or in off-campus venues.
  • Restricted vacation during peak periods.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to sit stand and walk for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to work effectively using ladders lifts and scaffolding.
  • Must be comfortable working at heights and able to move heavy equipment
