Incumbent of this position performs carpentry work and supervises skilled inmate craftsmen (5 10) in the Maintenance Department. LSP encompassessquare feet of enclosed building space in 489 buildings.Louisiana State Penitentiary (LSP) is the states only Class 1A facility and the only correctional facility providing custody and control of adult male inmates who have been sentenced to death.Minimum Qualifications
Two years of the required experience for the following minimum qualifications must have been on-the-job experience:

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
- Engages in and/or supervises skilled inmate craftsmen in performing such skilled tasks as roofing and re-roofing homes and other buildings located on the penitentiary grounds cabinet making laying brick and concrete blocks installation of various types of floor tile hanging doors sheetrock and paneling construction of screen doors and window and door frames and pouring and finishing concrete.
- Inspects areas of the institution to determine whether needed repairs are necessary and estimates the costs of repairs. Informs Maintenance Superintendent when emergency or routine repairs are needed along with cost estimates.
- Work with adult male inmates of all custody levels minimum medium maximum (death row) and protective custody.
- Work for (support) the Facility Maintenance Manager and supervise inmates.

Appointment Type: PROBATION or PROMOTION OF A PERMANENT CLASSIFIED LOUISIANA STATE EMPLOYEE
- Current permanent status classified LA State employees may be required to accept a probational appointment if accepted.
- An employee selected for a promotion may be required to serve a trial detail prior to being permanently promoted.
- This posting may also be used to fill a vacancy as a temporary job appointment. If filled as a temporary job appointment should a permanent position become available the employee may be converted to a probational appointment.
