CAHSS / School of Literatures Languages & Cultures / Department of English and Scottish Literature

Part Time: 17.5 hours per week

Fixed term: 2 years contract (available from January 2026)

The Opportunity:

Applications are invited for the post of Early Career Teaching Fellow in Creative Writing (Poetry).

The successful candidate will contribute primarily to the teaching of our MSc in Creative Writing and Literature courses (poetry workshops and seminars) and the supervision of postgraduate dissertations. They will also contribute undergraduate creative writing (poetry) option courses and may supervise undergraduate dissertations as required. They will contribute to teaching related administration within the subject area.

We particularly welcome applications from candidates with research expertise in one or more of the following areas identified as existing or emergent strengths within the English and Scottish Literature subject area: digital humanities; economic humanities; environmental humanities; health humanities; LGBTQ studies; postcolonial transnational and/or diasporic literary studies.

We welcome applications for this post from all qualified candidates and particularly welcome applications from members of minority ethnic groups who are currently under-represented in the School of Literatures Languages and Cultures.

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • PhD in a relevant field awarded by the time of application.
  • Masters in Creative Writing
  • Experience of or demonstrable capacity for teaching Creative Writing (Poetry) in the context of a department of English literary studies.
  • Experience of undergraduate and/or postgraduate teaching including design of teaching materials for classes.
  • Experience of marking and assessment of student performance at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
  • Experience of undergraduate and/or postgraduate dissertation supervision.
  • Experience in using IT effectively for teaching and learning as appropriate to the role.
