Job description
The Yard Driver (also known as a Hostler Yard Jockey Yard Switcher or Trailer Spotter) is responsible for safely operating company-owned or leased yard trucks to move trailers and containers within the warehouse yard. This role plays a critical part in maintaining efficient trailer flow supporting warehouse operations and ensuring safety protocols are met. The Yard Driver may also assist with forklift or sorting tasks during downtime.

What Youll Need:
- High School Diploma or GED (required)
- 1 year of driving or yard experience (preferred)
- Valid drivers license (required)
- Ability to read and speak English well enough to follow safety procedures and job instructions
- Comfortable performing manual labor in outdoor environments
Key Responsibilities:
Safely operate yard truck (hostler) to move trailers in and out of dock doors
Serve as ayard jockey trailer spotter or yard switcher positioning trailers accurately and efficiently
Complete daily yard checks and maintain trailer yard organization
Inspect vehicle condition (fuel oil lights tires etc.) and report issues promptly
Record and track all trailer movements using logs or electronic systems
Ensure trailer doors are secured before movement and chocked before disconnection
Communicate with dock supervisors to coordinate trailer moves
Verify trailer contents against shipping paperwork
Maintain a clean and safe yard environment
Assist with forklift operation or sorting duties during downtime or as needed
Follow all safety protocols company policies and operating procedures
