As Hawaiis Film School School of Cinematic Arts (SCA) is at the forefront of cinematic arts education in the Pacific. Located in Honolulu at the University of Hawaii at Manoa SCA is dedicated to academic and creative excellence through its bachelor of arts degree designed to encourage innovation and collaboration with an emphasis on Hawaii Pacific and Asia. Focused in the heart of a state with a robust film and television industry SCA encourages professional development mentorship and community engagement through a variety of programs including internships master classes and industry screenings. SCA nurtures and empowers students to develop their own unique voice as storytellers. Exploring cinematic arts forms rooted in personal experience and place-based learning through animation cinema studies digital cinema production and screenwriting.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Teach beginning to advanced courses in Production Sound/Post-Production Sound;
2. Assist in the development support and teaching of a curricular program in digital cinema production stressing multiple theoretical critical historical and technical approaches in the study design application and distribution of digital cinema;
3. Development of creative works or scholarshipin your field of specializationleading to public screenings and presentations;
4. Involvement in and presentations at nationally recognized professional organizations/conferences in your field;
5. Work towards the development of internship opportunities for students;
6. Supervise student production;
7. Involvement in service to the department university and community;
8. Advise student majors in the Digital Cinema Production and Cinematic Arts tracks; and
9. Other duties as assigned by the Chair.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Terminal degree (Ph.D. M.F.A. or equivalent) in Digital Cinema Productionor closely related field from a college or university of recognized standing (degree must be completed by August 2026) or Masters Degree in a closely related field plus five years of film industry experience;
2. Professional experience in Sound Production/Sound Post-Production;
3. Hands-on experience teaching Sound Production and Sound Post-Production classes;
4. Hands-on experience teaching Digital Cinema Production classes;
5. Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collegially with students faculty staff and administration.

Desirable Qualifications:

1. Experience in and comprehensive knowledge of:

• Experience in Location Sound Recording;
• Expertise in Post-Production Sound including sound mixing sound design Foley and sound editing for scripted/dramatic productions as demonstrated through the creation direction and collaboration on projects;
• Mastery of professional DAWs including but not limited to Pro Tools Logic Pro and other audio editing software systems;
• Proficiency in Digital Post-Production software including but not limited to Adobe Creative Cloud AVID Da Vinci Resolve;
• Experience with AVID Mixing Console;
• Experience with Color Correction;
• Experience with surround sound mixing immersive sound design/editing for games VR AR etc.;
• Experience in editing dialogue ADR (Automated Dialogue Replacement) and music as well as mixing for various media formats;
• Strong knowledge of modern audio equipment and signal flow; ability to troubleshoot technical issues and refine sound quality;
• Expertise in acoustics noise reduction and mixing to current industry standards so that final audio meets technical and creative standards;
