TheKent County Health Department (KCHD) a local division of the Maryland Department of Health plays a vital role in protecting and promoting the health of our community. We enforce key federal state and local public health laws while delivering a broad range of essential services.

Main Purpose of Job

The Health Officer is the executive officer of the Kent County Health Department leading a staff of 114 and administering an agency budget of approximately $9.5 million.

The Health Officer provides leadership in assessing planning implementing and evaluating strategies to address community health needs; enforces laws and regulations that protect the health and safety of the public; assures residents have access to essential health services; monitors for investigates and controls disease outbreaks; and informs the public about disease prevention and promotes health behaviors.

The Health Officer directs and administers a wide range of public health programs and services such as population health school health medical adult daycare disease control and prevention environmental health protection developmental disabilities clinical services that includes a regional inpatient addiction and mental health crisis and recovery unit disaster preparedness and response and community based wellness and prevention programs. The Health Officer coordinates programmatic activities with federal state and local agencies and assures that the public health workforce remains competent.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Qualified candidates must possess a Masters degree from an accredited college or university in Public Health and two (2) years of professional work experience in the field of public health OR a Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university and five (5) years of professional work experience in the field of public health.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Desired candidates will possess management experience in Behavioral Health.
