Job Description:
L3Harris is seeking an Associate Tool Design Engineer to join our growing facility in Huntsville AL. Manual and semi-automated tooling such as jigs fixtures molds mandrels and lifting devices are all required in the fabrication and assembly of solid fuel rocket motors. Tool Engineers are responsible to define all of these items. The role of Tool Engineering is mixture of design structural analysis project management and hands on this role the selected individual will be responsible for:
Essential Functions:
- Working with cross functional teams define tool requirements.
- Designing required tooling using PTC Creo and Windchill.
- Use finite element analysis (FEA) methods and tools to perform structural analysis of tools in order to predict internal stresses and resolve structural instabilities.
- Conducting design reviews with cross functional teams to obtain approval of tool designs.
- Oversight of procurement/fabrication of tooling.
- Working with manufacturing engineers to perform functional evaluations and acceptance of the tooling.
- Performing liaison support for tool maintenance by identification of tool problems design of repairs and implementation of modifications.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to obtain a US security clearance.
- Travel: 5%
Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree with 0 to 2 years of prior mechanical design engineering lieu of a degree minimum of 4 years of prior mechanical design engineering experience.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Experience in the design of tooling to support manufacturing is desired.
- Experience using a solid modeling program such as Siemens NX AutoCAD Inventor CATIA or Solid Works is preferred.
- Experience in ANSYS is a plus.
- Familiarity with GD&T and system tolerance analysis is a plus.
- Familiarity with principles of Design for Manufacturability is a plus.
- Experience working in the defense industry is a plus.
- Fabrication experience is a plus.
- Composite Wind tool design and/or fabrication experience is a plus.
- Compression Mold tool design and/or fabrication experience is a plus.
- Active Secret US Security Clearance is a plus.
