What is the Opportunity
AUE is seeking a Permitting Review Specialist to ensure telecom and utility infrastructure projects meet regulatory and municipal standards before construction begins. You will lead the review of complex permit packages coordinate with internal teams and external agencies to resolve issues and maintain high-quality documentation that supports project approvals.
What Youll Do Here
Conduct detailed reviews of permit application packages (i.e. Municipal Consent Utility Attachments ROW Traffic Control Encroachment) for completeness and accuracy.
Validate conformance to municipal standards client specifications and applicable codes (CSA TAC/MTO rail conservation authority).
Ensure design intent aligns with permit drawings and that all required supporting documents are included (i.e. traffic plans engineering sketches TMP/MOT environmental screens).
Liaise with municipalities utility owners and agencies to clarify comments resolve deficiencies and align expectations prior to resubmission.
Coordinate design changes with Project Designers CAD and Field/GIS teams to resolve conflicts (i.e. pole replacements depth of cover utility clashes).
Track review outcomes and conditions of approval; ensure conditions are documented and routed to stakeholders before IFC issuance.
Maintain standardized checklists and exemplars for each permitting authority; update regularly based on feedback and regulatory changes.
What You Bring to the Team
3 years of experience in permitting reviews or municipal approvals for utilities preferably in telecommunications.
Working knowledge of permitting processes including Municipal Consent (MC) ROW/ROA occupancy traffic control utility attachments/leases encroachments and rail/conservation/MTO requirements.
Proficiency in reviewing permit drawings and supporting documentation; familiarity with AutoCAD and permit tracking tools.
Meticulous attention to detail and strong written communication skills; able to manage multiple submissions across jurisdictions.
Proven ability to plan organize and execute task objectives in a high-volume process-driven environment.
Demonstrated effective decision-making skills while working independently with minimal supervision.
Collaborative problem-solving and stakeholder engagement; committed to Safety Always and continuous improvement.
Post-secondary education in Civil Engineering Urban Planning Architectural Technology or a related discipline is considered an asset.
