About this unit:
The Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CTICU) is a 36-bed ICU located in the Meijer Heart Centerspecializing in highly acute post-cardiac and advanced heart failure patients. This team is only hiring for night shift however the initial orientation weeks will require daytime availability during weekdays. Nurse techs are able to care for a wide range of patients and devices including heart/lung transplant patients post-operative open-heart patients patients requiring extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) intra-aortic balloon pumps (IABP) CentriMag Impella and long-term ventricular assist devices (VAD). Experts in caring for the most critically ill patients in our area and throughout Michigan. We are at the forefront of cardiac medicine engaging in cutting-edge innovation and research.
Scope of Work:
Nurse Technicians act as a team member in the delivery of quality patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN). Responsibilities include critical thinking and technical skills to provide assistance during complex procedures bed bathing ambulating wound care catheterization and at times monitoring/checking vitals blood sugars and acting as a safety attendant for patients.
Provides direct patient care under the direction of the RN or Provider consistent with clinical policies and procedures and department standard work. Provides input in the development of an individualized plan of care. Ensures that required documentation is performed in an accurate and timely manner.
Articulates the nursing technician role to the patient family and health team members. Provides support to facilitate safe quality patient care in a cost-effective manner.
Cleans patients environment / work area / equipment and communicates any equipment malfunctions to appropriate department / unit personnel.
Demonstrates a high standard of moral and ethical behavior. Advocates for privacy confidentiality and security of patient staff and organization data.
In addition a Nurse Technician is often floated to other departments of higher need based with similar training.
Orientation
Orientation weeks will require flexibility to train full time during weekdays for 11 weeks before phasing into regular night shifts.
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent
Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) Required Within 90 Days
Prior experience in inpatient care strongly preferred
