Job Title: Operating Room (OR) Charge Nurse Multi-specialty

Job Summary:
The OR Charge Nurse is a key leadership role within the surgical team responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the operating room. This position ensures the delivery of safe efficient and high-quality patient care during surgical procedures. The Charge Nurse coordinates staffing manages surgical case flow facilitates communication among team members and serves as a clinical resource to support nursing and surgical staff. With specialized knowledge in surgery this nurse plays a critical role in maintaining a sterile environment ensuring adherence to regulatory standards and fostering a collaborative patient-centered atmosphere.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Leadership & Supervision:
Oversee and coordinate the day-to-day workflow in the OR.
Serve as a clinical resource and mentor to nursing and support staff.
Ensure adequate staffing and skill mix to meet patient care needs.
Provide real-time problem-solving and support during surgical procedures.
Patient Care Coordination:
Ensure safe and efficient perioperative care for patients undergoing procedures (e.g. Spine GI Ortho Gynecology).
Monitor patients conditions and anticipate needs throughout the perioperative process.
Advocate for patient safety and comfort while upholding best practices in surgical care.
Surgical Case Management:
Collaborate with surgeons anesthesia providers and OR staff to manage and optimize daily surgical schedules.
Ensure proper instrumentation equipment and supplies are available and functioning prior to procedures.
Facilitate timely room turnover while maintaining high standards for infection prevention and control.
Quality and Compliance:
Uphold hospital policies Joint Commission standards and perioperative best practices.
Monitor documentation for accuracy and completeness.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives audits and staff education.
Communication & Collaboration:
Act as the primary point of contact between OR staff and leadership during assigned shifts.
Promote a culture of teamwork professionalism and continuous learning.
Assist in resolving conflicts and escalating concerns appropriately.
Qualifications:
Current RN license in good standing
BLS ACLS PALS certifications (required)
CNOR certification (preferred)
Minimum 3 years of OR experience
Prior leadership or charge nurse experience preferred
Strong communication organizational and critical thinking skills
Ability to work effectively in high-pressure and fast-paced environments
