The role
The Unhedged newsletter is looking for a new reporter in London as part of a global expansion.
Unhedged is a daily markets and finance letter that has more than 60000 subscribers worldwide. It gives a wry opinionated and highly analytical read on the latest news of stocks bonds -- and most every other market you can think of from crypto to real estate. Unhedged also produces a twice-weekly podcast where the Unhedged team and guests from inside and outside the FT give an informal but incisive take on the finance world. The goal of both the letter and the podcast is to cut through the noise to get at the essence of the news of the day and to provide sharp differentiated views about it.
The role will involve reading deeply into financial news and research conducting interviews writing high-quality accessible content and providing beautiful charts for the newsletters sophisticated reader base. Idea generation data gathering writing and production of powerful charts are equally important parts of the job. The role will include opportunities to appear on the podcast.
This position will report to Katie Martin the longtime host of the Unhedged podcast who is now starting the new London end to the newsletter operation which was formerly based only in New York.
Who we are looking for
Candidates must have a proven understanding of and curiosity about financial markets and skills in sourcing and presenting data in accessible ways. You should be familiar with data systems like Bloomberg Terminal and LSEG Workspace. An educational or professional background in economics or finance is a plus but not mandatory. Ability to think quantitatively is a must. A sense of humor and the confidence to make and defend controversial positions on complex issues are important as well.

FT Newsroom staff are expected to work onsite a minimum of three days per week subject to role requirements and regular review. While flexible working requests will be considered not all patterns are suitable for Editorial roles.
