Job Purpose:

The Yard Truck Operator will safely and accurately move trailers to and from the dock per the instruction of the Supervisor and office. The Yard Truck Operator will be responsible for the organization and cleanliness of yard and dock areas. This position will ensure all seals and paperwork are handled and processed in accordance with MainOcean Logistics procedures. The Yard Truck Operator will safely operate forklifts for inventory management order picking and assisting with shipping and receiving.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Perform an effective and accurate yard check at the designated time each day.
  • Set dock for the following day at the end of each shift in accordance with required prioritization.
  • Prioritizes BTC drivers by taking calls from drivers ahead of arrival facilitating doubles when possible and verifying empty containers are cleaned and doors closed.
  • Proactively notify management of all work not expected to be completed within assigned time expectation so corrective action can be taken.
  • Perform routine maintenance checks on forklifts and report any issues or malfunctions.
  • Operate various types of forklifts including reach trucks clamp trucks and standard forklifts.
  • Safely load and unload materials from trucks and storage areas according to customers requirements.
  • Move materials within the warehouse using forklifts and other heavy equipment.
  • Assist with shipping and receiving tasks including checking inventory and verifying orders.
  • Accurately complete and turn in all required paperwork for each completed load and end of day reporting as required including but not limited to container activity log receiving documentation and photos for all export crate deliveries.
  • Maintain an organized clean and safe work area free of OSHA violations including but not limited to assigned truck and apron area.
  • Efficiently coordinate traffic in the yard when necessary.
  • Proactively notify management when company property or equipment needs repair or the condition is deteriorating abnormally.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and an appropriate level of teamwork and cooperation with both office and operations employees.
  • Develop and build professional relationships with customers.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

Skills and Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Forklift operator certified with proficient skill in the safe operation of forklift yard lifts and yard trucks.
  • Current valid drivers license and clean driving record.
  • 1 year of experience warehouse related experience with a successful track record of safety and accuracy.
  • Able to read write and communicate in verbal and written English fluently.
  • Able to work with initiative and minimal supervision and is goal oriented.
  • Computer and tablet literate along with working knowledge of camera use in order to take pictures of cargo.
  • Strong business math skills.
  • Able to read interpret and apply information from office documents.
  • Able to effectively communicate regarding completed work and accurately ascertain estimated time to completion of outstanding work.
  • Able to build strong relationships with intra-company employees and drivers.
  • Able to multi-task and manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational task and time management skills.

Working Conditions:

  • The worker is subject to outside environmental conditions: No effective protection from weather.
  • The worker is subject to extreme heat: Temperatures above 100 degrees for periods of more than one hour. Consideration should be given to the effect of other environmental conditions such as wind and humidity.
  • The worker is subject to noise: There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level.
  • The worker is subject to hazards: Includes a variety of physical conditions such as proximity to moving mechanical parts moving vehicles electrical current working on scaffolding and high places exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.
  • The worker is subject to atmospheric conditions: One or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system of the skin: Fumes odors dusts mists gases or poor ventilation.
  • The worker is required to function in narrow aisles passageways or small spaces: Includes spaces such as loaded cargo containers and warehouse aisles.
  • The worker is subject to heights: The worker frequently is required to utilize ladders and lifts to reach high objects in a warehouse environment that may be stored tens of feet off of the ground.

Physical Requirements:

  • Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Climbing: Ascending or descending ladders stairs scaffolding ramps poles and the like using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized. This factor is important if the amount and kind of climbing required exceeds that required for ordinary locomotion.
  • Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires full use of the lower extremities and back muscles.
  • Crouching: Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.
  • Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
  • Standing: Remaining upright on the feet particularly for sustained periods of time.
  • Sitting: Be in a seated position for an extended period of time.
  • Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
  • Pushing: Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward downward or outward.
  • Pulling: Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw drag haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.
  • Lifting: Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to-position. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires the substantial use of the upper extremities and back muscles.
  • Fingering: Picking pinching typing or otherwise working primarily with fingers rather than with whole hand or arm as in handling.
  • Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
  • Feeling: Perceiving attributes of objects such as size shape temperature or texture by touching with skin particularly that of fingertips.
  • Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; those activities where detailed or important spoken instructions must be conveyed to other workers accurately loudly or quickly
  • Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction and having the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and making fine discriminations in sound.
  • Seeing: Clarity of vision at near and far distances depth perception and able to work in low light environments.
  • Smelling: Able to detect or perceive odors.
