Job Summary

Overview

The College of Engineering (COE) is seeking a collaborative and data-driven leader to serve as the Director of Analytics Assessment and Strategic Development. This role will be instrumental in shaping the colleges strategic direction by fostering data-informed decision-making comprehensive assessment practices and innovative strategic development. The director will collaborate with college leadership faculty and staff to enhance initiative effectiveness and support continuous improvement across the college. This includes gathering and analyzing data from different systems and sources utilizing assessment methodologies using both written and oral communication to provide action-oriented insights and collaborating with leadership to develop strategic initiatives.

Responsibilities

Data Analytics (50%)

  • Gather clean merge and analyze data from different systems (i.e. student recruiting admission retention graduation and post-graduation placement; curriculum and academic programs; workforce development; engineering programs at state-wide locations)
  • Generate data through surveys focus groups interviews and outside sources as needed
  • Interpret quantitative and qualitative data to derive meaningful insights and actionable recommendations
  • Prepare comprehensive reports summarizing findings including visualizations and narrative summaries
  • Develop interactive dashboards to communicate key performance indicators and trends
  • Communicate results to different levels of stake holders using both written and oral communication
  • Hire train and supervise data analysts and lead the colleges data team
  • Ensure data integrity and consistency
  • Assist college administrators faculty and staff by providing data as requested

Assessment and Evaluation (40%)

  • Lead the development and execution of assessment plans for strategic initiatives programs and college outcomes (i.e. first-year engineering program new academic programs recruiting scholarships)
  • Utilize assessment methods both formative and summative to facilitate the continuous improvement of the College of Engineering
  • Engage college leaders faculty and staff in the evaluation of their own work and provide training and support as needed
  • Maintain accurate records of assessment activities including instruments data sets and analysis procedures
  • Support and enhance accreditation data reporting and compliance efforts (i.e. ABET U.S. News & World Report)

Strategic Development (10%)

  • Utilize existing and new models of analysis that leverage data towards intentionality and strategic decision making
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to integrate analytics and assessment findings into decision making processes and improve program outcomes
  • Collaborate with each units program administrator and stakeholders to develop the context around the student data
  • Assist college leaders in the development and implementation of the colleges strategic plan and strategic initiatives
  • Monitor progress toward strategic goals and recommend adjustments based on data insights
  • Build strong relationships and communicate with program administrators and stakeholders and serve as a point of contact and liaison for strategic decision making within the college
  • Identify opportunities to educate and train college participants in how analytical techniques and assessment frameworks can strengthen decision making
  • Support and collaborate with institutional partners across campus

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in data analytics or comparable field from an accredited university
  • At least two years of experience in data analysis assessment or strategic planning in a higher education setting
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects and lead cross-functional teams

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience utilizing assessment frameworks both summative and formative
  • Proficiency in data analytics and visualization tools
  • Experience creating data-informed strategic initiatives
  • Experience working within an engineering or STEM-focused academic environment
  • Broad knowledge of USUs structures processes data structures and tools and academic programs
  • Experience working with academic leaders to facilitate data-informed decisions encourage continuous improvement and enhance strategic development

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to utilize technical knowledge statistical tools and software packages in data analytics
  • Ability to visualize data effectively and utilize data visualization programs such as Tableau
  • Ability to collect data from varying sources both internal and external and utilize data collection programs such as Qualtrics
  • Verbal and written communication skills; effective public speaking skills including ability to communicate with individuals as well as groups
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple demands and changing needs
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment
  • Ability to learn and stay current on complex program policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of and proficiency in a variety of current and emerging technology platforms
