About the Role

Are you passionate about supporting families and children with complex disability needs

In this role youll work closely with families whose children are either in residential care or at risk of entering care due to disability-related challenges. Youll be providing intensive support to parents helping them navigate the NDIS and advocating for plans that include the right mix of parenting and disability supports. Your work will help families stay together and build the capacity they need to thrive. Youll be part of a collaborative and trauma-informed team working alongside other professionals and community services to make sure families get the support they need. If you have experience in disability social work education or a related field and youre committed to culturally safe strengths-based practice wed love to hear from you.

This is a Part-Time opportunity based in Footscray within our Western Regional Parenting Service Community Programs. This position reports to the coordinator - Regional Parenting Services.

Key Selection Criteria:

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • A recognised degree in Social Work Disability Education Health Early Childhood Community Development Family Work or a related field.
  • Experience working with people with disabilities and supporting vulnerable families.
  • Strong understanding of trauma-informed care child development and family-centred practice.
  • Ability to support parents in navigating the NDIS and advocate for appropriate supports.
  • Knowledge of the out-of-home care (OOHC) system and how it intersects with disability services.
  • Cultural awareness and understanding of Aboriginal culture values and the challenges faced by Aboriginal children and families.
  • Experience working respectfully with Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) communities.

You must have a:

  • Valid and current Drivers Licence
  • Satisfactory Criminal History Check (paid for by MacKillop)
  • Valid Employee Working with Children Check
  • Valid and current NDIS Workers Screening Check (for risk assessed / client facing roles). MacKillop can assist successful candidates with their application.
