The opportunity

The Product Development and Engineering roles are core of Magic Leaps revolutionary AR capabilities. These highly collaborative teams are responsible for our organizations engineering and technical operations performing cutting-edge and complex scientific research and development that is defined as we build to create new AR products features and marketplaces. Activities include undertaking research design development and implementation activities to improve Magic Leaps AR products and services; designing constructing testing and operating equipment; ensuring that standards of quality cost safety reliability timeliness and performance are met in production processes; interpreting plans drawings and specifications; and collaborating across all Magic Leap teams to ensure our AR product and features provide a high-quality immersive experience meeting and exceeding our customers needs and our business objectives.

As a Sr. Electro-Mechanical Technician for the Product Development and Engineering Organization you will be responsible for building upgrading and maintaining custom manufacturing equipment for see-through augmented reality displays.

Location: This position requires being fully on-site at our Austin TX facility to ensure seamless collaboration and hands-on support for daily operations. Relocation assistance is available for non-local candidates.

What youll do

• Build precision mechanisms with assembly drawings bills of material and instructions from engineers.
• Build electrical control panels and cable harnesses that meet equipment safety specifications
• Troubleshoot multi-discipline equipment issues
• Route cables and pneumatic lines within the equipment.
• Work with engineers to determine corrective action for design and manufacturing issues.
• Collects changes on mechanical and electrical drawings.
• Documents assembly instructions.
• Builds test sets and mockups with little documentation.
• Assists in moving and crating equipment for shipping.
• Maintain an organized and safe working environment.

The experience you bring

• 5 years of professional experience in designing and building control systems for equipment
• Proven track record of working independently to diagnose and resolve electrical equipment problems
• Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering Automation Engineering Mechanical Engineering or equivalent relevant experience in an applicable field. We are most interested in your total experience and professional achievements.

Its exciting if you also have

• Experience designing and working on equipment for clean room applications
• Experience with optics illumination and cameras
• Experience setting up and teaching robots
