Job Title: Human Resources Manager
Location: Southeast Michigan
Industry: Automotive Supplier (Plant-Based Environment)
Reports to: Director of Human Resources or Plant Manager
Position Summary:
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Human Resources Manager to lead all HR functions at our automotive supplier facility in Southeast Michigan. The ideal candidate will bring at least 5 years of HR experience in the automotive supplier industry with a strong understanding of plant operations and labor dynamics.
This role is responsible for ensuring HR compliance supporting organizational development managing health and safety programs leading talent acquisition and overseeing day-to-day HR operations. The HR Manager will serve as a key advisor to plant leadership and will help drive a positive performance-oriented culture aligned with company values and customer expectations.
Key Responsibilities:
Compliance & Labor RelationsEnsure compliance with federal state and local employment laws and regulations (EEOC FMLA ADA OSHA etc.).
Maintain accurate HR records and manage audits or inquiries from regulatory agencies.
Partner with legal counsel and external consultants as needed.
Support union avoidance or work collaboratively in a unionized environment if applicable.
Identify training needs and implement employee development programs.
Support leadership development succession planning and employee engagement initiatives.
Drive performance management processes and facilitate coaching conversations with department leaders.
Champion plant safety initiatives and work closely with EHS personnel to ensure compliance with OSHA and internal standards.
Conduct incident investigations and participate in safety audits and corrective actions.
Promote wellness and employee well-being programs.
Lead end-to-end recruitment for salaried and hourly positions including job postings interviewing and onboarding.
Develop relationships with local schools workforce boards and recruiting firms.
Track staffing metrics and improve retention through targeted efforts.
Serve as a trusted advisor to plant leadership on HR-related matters.
Manage compensation and benefits administration in partnership with corporate HR.
Investigate employee relations issues and recommend resolutions.
Lead HR communications and employee engagement activities.
Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Human Resources Business Administration or related field (Masters degree or HR certification a plus).
Minimum 5 years of HR experience in the automotive supplier industry preferably in a manufacturing or plant setting.
Proven experience in compliance recruiting safety programs and employee development.
Strong knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices.
Excellent communication interpersonal and conflict-resolution skills.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
Proficient with HRIS and Microsoft Office tools.
Preferred Experience:
Familiarity with lean manufacturing or continuous improvement culture.
Experience supporting IATF 16949 ISO 14001 or other automotive quality/safety standards.
Prior involvement with hourly workforce and high-volume recruiting.
