UNHCR the UN Refugee Agency is offering a full-time internship with the Private Sector
Partnerships service under the Division of External Relations in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia.
Established in December 1950 UNHCR is a global organization dedicated protecting
people forced to flee their homes because of conflict and persecution. UNHCR currently
operates in over 130 countries protecting millions of people by responding with lifesaving support safeguarding fundamental human rights and helping them build a better
future.

Organizational context/Background Information
UNHCR the UN Refugee Agency launched its Private Sector Partnerships (PSP) activities
in Malaysia in 2017 to secure financial contributions from Individual donors as well as
Corporates and Foundations. The development of this market will support the global
organization in expanding its supporter base and building a stable and predictable
income stream from the private sector within Malaysia. Ultimately this will mean UNHCR
Malaysia can provide even more support to refugees and other persons of concern.
As of 2025 UNHCR Malaysia has been growing in individual donor support through
monthly donations. Donor Care & Development (DCD) team is a newly set up team in
2025 to manage its pool of individual donors through retention development and
engagement activities with donor-centric communications to cultivate loyalty.
This intern post will be supporting duties rising from DCDs core duties supporting the
team in managing its donor communication programs. It will be
The position
This position will take up duties arises from donor recruitment and donor loyalty
activities. The incumbents role in relation to this requirement is to support the
expansion of UNHCR PSP programme in Malaysia making use of all possible
opportunities that may arise through various fundraising activities.
Duties and responsibilities
Donor Communication (50%):
Manage donor email enquiries.
Research and development of donor content via internal media library.
Manage and analyse donor communication engagement for online and offline
communication channels.
Support in communications emails and direct mails.
Donor Management (40%):
Assist in monitoring analysing and consolidating donor data from both external
and internal platforms.
Other ad-hoc tasks as required (10%).
Minimum qualifications required
In order to be considered for an internship candidates must meet the following
eligibility criteria:
Be either a recent graduate (having completed their studies within two years of
applying) or a current student in a graduate/undergraduate school programme
from a university or higher education facility accredited by IAU/UNESCO; and
Have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant or
of interest to the work of UNHCR.
NOTE: An individual whose father mother son daughter brother or sister is a staff
member of UNHCR including a Temporary Appointment holder or a member of the Affiliate
Workforce is not eligible for an internship.
Desirable qualifications and skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office 360 (Excel Words PowerPoint and Outlook).
Familiar with media design platforms such as Canva.
Proficient in English both writing and conversation.
Conditions
The internship is for four months with the start date expected to be in September 2025.
It is a full-time role with working hours starting from 9:00am to 6:00pm Monday to
Friday (40 hours per week).
Allowance: Interns who do not receive financial support from an outside party will
receive a monthly allowance of RM 2132.84 to partially help to cover the cost of food
local transportation and living expenses.
Location: This internship is to be based in the UNHCR Malaysia Office in Kuala Lumpur
Malaysia.
Visas and Residencies: As the given duty station is Kuala Lumpur applicants should be
able to demonstrate permission to reside and legally work in the Malaysia at the point of
application for duration of the internship. Obtaining and renewing current visas and
residence permits including all associated costs are the primary responsibility of the
intern. UNHCR may assist by providing supporting documentation if needed.
Insurance: Interns are fully responsible for arranging medical insurance covering the
full internship. A copy of proof of valid medical insurance covering the period of the
Internship Agreement is required by UNHCR
