Leidos Defense Systems Land Systems is seeking a Sustainment Chief Engineer to join the Indirect Fire Protection Capability Increment 2 (IFPC Inc2) Program which is a ground-based mobile system that aims to combat cruise missiles and unmanned aircraft systems. The IFPC Inc2 system protects and defends civilian and military infrastructure and bridges the gap between tactical short range air defense systems and our strategic systems. The Sustainment Chief Engineer will track sustainment-related activities such as Root Cause analyses of in-service problems (Operational hazards Corrosion effects Reliability Degradation) and Logistics deliverables (user manuals emplacement procedure repair/replace procedures and others) for fielded IFPC Inc 2 launchers and report their status to the programs technical leadership. Additionally this Sustainment Chief Engineer will serve as a technical liaison with customer representatives and users. This position is highly visible and ensures that fielded systems remain operational reliable and safe.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the development integration and validation of logistics support plans (LSP) maintenance concept lifecycle sustainment strategies and logistics requirements in support of system design and deployment.
Support logistics analyses such as Reliability Availability Maintainability and Testability (RAMT) Failure Modes Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) and supportability assessments.
Support the development and maintain spares provisioning and repair network models to support field readiness mission availability and cost tradeoffs.
Oversee Parts Materials and Obsolescence analysis; implement Diminishing Manufacturing Sources and Material Shortages (DMSMS) plans.
Coordinate reparables and consumables strategy supply chain integration and spare parts forecasting with supply chain / procurement teams.
Serve as the logistics technical interface to the engineering test production and sustainment functions.
Drive requirements decomposition and flow-down of logistics / sustainment requirements into subcontractor SOWs ensuring alignment with overall program goals.
Lead the logistics engineering team: mentor guide analysis efforts resource allocation quality reviews.
Provide risk identification and mitigation related to sustainment supportability obsolescence supplier issues and performance shortfalls.
Support technical reviews milestone deliverables (e.g. PRR CDR PDR TRR) with logistics design products models and assessments.
Develop metrics dashboards and performance prediction models for sustainment readiness availability mean time between maintenance (MTBM) mean time to repair (MTTR) logistics cost per unit etc.
Support continuous improvement of logistics processes.
Ensure compliance with applicable standards DoD acquisition logistics policies ILS principles safety export and environmental requirements.
Communicate status risks and recommendations to program leadership stakeholders and customers.
Performance Metrics / Success Indicators
Achievement of sustainment readiness and mission availability targets.
Prediction accuracy of logistics models vs. field results (e.g. MTBM MTTR within tolerance).
Percentage of logistics requirements flowed down and validated in downstream contracts/subcontracts.
Reduction of logistics cost growth over time.
Timeliness and quality of logistics deliverables for program milestones.
Team growth retention and delivered engineering output.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Systems Engineering Electrical Engineering Mechanical Engineering Software Engineering Computer Science Computer Engineering Aerospace Engineering or equivalent degree from an ABET-accredited university with 8 years of experience or an MS with 6 years experience.
Demonstrated experience in integrated logistics support sustainment planning reliability/maintainability analysis provisioning DMSMS.
Proven ability to lead manage and mentor a technical team.
Strong analytical skills and experience with logistics support tools life cycle cost analysis metrics and dashboards.
Excellent cross-discipline communication skills (verbal written) and ability to influence technical decisions.
Deep understanding of DoD logistics and acquisition policy logistics doctrine defense contracts and flow-down practices.
Experience coordinating with subcontractors / external organizations on logistics requirements and implementation.
Familiarity with regulations for Government Furnished Equipment (GFE) Export Control (ITAR) safety and other applicable compliance domains.
Demonstrated experience effectively communicating within a team environment including leading and conducting technical reviews
Resident of the North Alabama area or willing to relocate to the Huntsville - North Alabama AL area.
Possess a secret clearance or have the ability to obtain a secret clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience working on missile defense aerospace or high-reliability systems.
Experience in digital twin model-based systems engineering (MBSE) with logistics integration.
Proficiency in specialized tools (e.g. lifecycle support software reliability tools logistics modeling platforms).
Knowledge of supply chain management procurement inventory control and transportation logistics.
Background in Lean Six Sigma or continuous improvement methodologies.
Understanding of test infrastructure depot processes repair flow and diagnostics.
Proficiency in estimation of the engineering effort associated with logistics tasks.
