Job Description
Job Title: Business Intelligence (BI) Developer
Client: NIH National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH)
Job Type: Full-Time
Job Summary:
The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) is seeking an experienced Business Intelligence (BI) Developer to support NIMH-wide data analysis reporting and dashboard development efforts. The ideal candidate will be a senior-level BI specialist with extensive experience in data visualization data integration ETL development and report generation. Strong communication skills and the ability to translate complex data into meaningful visual insights for decision-makers are essential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design develop and maintain enterprise-level BI solutions across the NIMH.
- Translate business and functional requirements into intuitive and actionable dashboards reports and visual presentations.
- Conduct data analysis from multiple internal and external data sources to identify trends and actionable insights.
- Develop and manage ETL workflows using Pentaho Data Integration (Kettle).
- Create and maintain stored procedures and optimized SQL queries.
- Design build and manage interactive dashboards using Power BI for various stakeholders including executive leadership.
- Deliver clear and concise data analysis presentations using Microsoft PowerPoint.
- Support and implement BI best practices including data governance metadata management and standardization.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to research and evaluate technical solutions; make recommendations that align with project goals.
- Maintain detailed and up-to-date technical documentation for all BI processes and workflows.
- Support the definition and implementation of standard operating procedures for BI development and delivery.
- Ensure compliance with data security privacy and access protocols as required in a federal research environment.
Required Qualifications:
- 6 years of professional experience in business intelligence development data analysis and dashboard design.
- Proven expertise in Power BI including report creation DAX calculations and data modeling.
- Proficient in SQL and experience writing stored procedures for relational and dimensional databases.
- Experience developing ETL processes using Pentaho ETL (or similar tools).
- Strong understanding of relational and dimensional database concepts.
- Ability to present analysis results effectively to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent critical thinking and analytical abilities.
- Demonstrated experience translating complex data into visually compelling dashboards and reports.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university (preferably in Computer Science Information Systems or related field).
- Experience with ServiceNow Reporting.
- Experience with Qlik Sense is a plus.
- Familiarity with federal IT environments and data security compliance.
- Prior experience in healthcare or biomedical research settings is highly desirable.
Personnel Requirements:
- Substitution of proposed Key Personnel is not allowed within the first six months after award unless under extreme circumstances.
- Any personnel replacement must meet or exceed the qualifications of the original individual and must be pre-approved by the COR and Chief of ITOTS.
- Resumes for proposed personnel changes must be submitted at least two weeks in advance (or as mutually agreed).
- Selected personnel must obtain required security clearances prior to starting performance.
