Job Overview:

The UKRI International team provides international expertise advice and influence overseas and in the UK for the whole of UKRI - complimenting the disciplinary business and institutional expertise of the international teams in the nine Councils and working together to embed a culture of coherent effective and equitable international engagement across UKRI.

UKRIs approach to internal collaboration is set out in the UKRI International Strategic Framework (UKRI international strategic framework UKRI) which describes how our international work directly contributes to each of UKRIs 6 strategic objectives.

UKRI International is excited to offer skilled individuals the opportunity to join us as International Manager in one of UKRI Internationals teams. This job advertisement covers multiple posts spread across our International Funds International Partnerships and International Policy & Stakeholder Engagement teams.

Key Responsibilities:

Reporting to one of the International Senior Managers the post-holders will support delivery of UKRIs international ambitions working on key UKRI engagements with partners development of new policies or coordination of funds across UKRIs nine constituent Councils to achieve our collective international ambitions.

The post-holders will collaborate across UKRI to deliver flexibly and at pace. The roles requires a pro-active and imaginative approach as well as excellent planning engagement and communication skills. The International Managers will need to build positive relationships and work effectively across Councils and with external stakeholders including internationally.

A non-exhaustive selection of duties that will be covered across the various roles include:

  • Engaging in the planning of UKRIs strategic approach to development of portfolios of international research and innovation partnerships and future funding programmes.
  • Managing cohorts of existing projects and commissioning new international research and capacity strengthening programmes and their peer review.
  • Developing opportunities for the UKRI CEO and other senior colleagues to engage in international activities and contributing to preparation of high-quality advice guidance and briefings.
  • Facilitating engagements with UK-based stakeholders (e.g. government departments national academies British Council) international partner funders and selected multilateral fora (e.g. OECD Global Science Forum Science Europe UN bodies).
  • Contributing to international discussions on different aspects of research and innovation policy (e.g. Open Science Equality Diversity and Inclusion Trusted Research and Innovation).
  • Supporting the activities of UKRI International by taking on ad hoc duties as needed to deliver the objectives of the wider team.

There may be occasions where the post holders will be required to travel within the UK and/or overseas.

Depending on resourcing requirements the post-holder might be expected to move between teams in UKRI International and undertake other core duties commensurate with the Band and level of responsibility of this post for which the post holder has the necessary experience and/or training.

Essential

  • Educated to degree level or able to demonstrate equivalent experience. (S)
  • Sound project management and organisational skills with experience in delivering accurate high-quality pieces of work at pace and to short deadlines. (S & I)
  • Ability to investigate and analyse problems systematically and develop reasoned proposals for action.(S & I)
  • The ability to multi-task work flexibly and to plan prioritise and manage delivery of a diverse portfolio of projects and activities with different timescales priorities and delivery mechanisms working individually and as part of a team.(S & I)
  • Effective written and oral communication skills including the ability to tailor information to a wide range of audiences including senior decision-makers.(S & I)
  • Ability to influence and persuade others and negotiate diplomatically with experience of establishing effective working relationships and networks with internal and external stakeholders.(S & I)
  • Ability to work collaboratively and build effective working relationships and networks with people at all levels both internally with colleagues across an organisation and externally with key stakeholders. (S & I)
