JOB PURPOSE

The purpose of the Learning Support (LS) Teacher role is to provide targeted academic and emotional support to students with diverse learning needs ensuring all students have equitable access to high-quality instruction. The Learning Support Teacher works within a tiered support system to identify student needs and provide structured support.

By collaborating with classroom teachers administrators and other Support Services Team members the LS Teacher guides the design and implementation of individualized learning plans provides differentiated instruction accommodations for testing and leads small group interventions.

Additionally the LS Teacher participates in student support teams contributes to faculty professional development and advocates for best practices in inclusive education across the school community.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Identify student learning needs through observations informal and formal assessments and data analysis.
  • Teach small groups of students who have targeted support needs to access the curricula.
  • Support teachers to implement successful learning strategies and accommodations for the students in their classes.
  • Maintain accurate records of communication and make entries in confidential files to monitor student performance and progress.
  • Share student progress monitoring data with the Learning Support Coordinator and division leader.
  • Develop relationships with students that promote a restorative practices approach to building community and fostering a sense of belonging.
  • Safeguard students by monitoring their physical and social-emotional safety in partnership with parents administrators and school counselors.
  • Build collaborative partnerships with students parents colleagues and teachers to strengthen the school culture of inclusivity and shared responsibility.

Ideal candidates will have experience with diverse pedagogical approaches a passion for teaching and a commitment to lifelong learning. They will thrive in an inquiry-based environment and be excited to teach a diverse student body while maintaining a flexible attitude and sense of humor.

REQUIREMENTS

  • A relevant Bachelors degree or equivalent
  • At least 3 years of teaching experience as a primary Learning Support Teacher
  • Proficiency in English required
  • Experience and training in the Orton-Gillingham approach
  • Successful experience in an inquiry-based transdisciplinary or IB PYP environment is preferred though strong applicants with experience in other curricula are also encouraged to apply.
  • Enthusiastic about teaching within a multicultural and multilingual environment.
  • Strong interpersonal organizational communication and collaboration skills
  • Knowledgeable and experienced in second language acquisition (SLA) approaches and classroom application.
